Once again, the proper analogy is that the "genome" is more like a list of building materials, than an architectural plan. The same "genes" can exist across organisms the same way that a "nail" is a building component that exists across buildings of vastly different sizes and forms. The same exact genome ( "list of genes" ) exists in every cell of the body whether assembled into a "hand" or into an organ such as the "liver" but do NOT tell us anything about the form or function of either.
This should be self-evident if you think about it. For example, we can isolate a single "v" from the word "evident" in the previous sentence. If we isolate the "v" and examine it alone, it tells us nothing about the word it came from and even less about the meaning of the sentence from which it came.
