Regarding [RR] backing out of voluntarily testified before Congress:
Sometimes it is necessary to subpoena even a now-co-operating witness.
[RR] can be allowed to make his "principled" stand even as he contradicts said "principled" stand in testimony.
This continues the public perception of tension between DOJ (acting as opposition) and POTUS.
President Trump can set out a challenge to [RR] to make his case before the public and to make a stand for [ ]. Did not go well for Stzork who really shone under questioning and the bright lights.
The issue for [RR], beyond his own hide, is the centrality of his wife's part in all of this. One can empathize even if hold little if any sympathy for the couple.
Empathizing is good. Useful in making deals. And making deals means forcing the other guy to show his hand, one way or the other, prematurely. Or to give the other guy what he thinks he wants by packaging what he needs as a deal.
