JPMorgan Expert: Illinois Bankruptcy Option Needed - True Debt, Pension, Health Costs Would Consume Half Of Revenue

His report released yesterday, The ARC and the Covenants, updates his earlier research comparing the percentage of state revenues needed to pay interest on general obligation debt, and meet all future pension and retiree healthcare obligations. [The link to the report appears to be working sporadically: https://www.jpmorgan.com/directdoc/ARC4_ES.pdf ]

Most states, he concludes, have manageable burdens (which he defines as 15% or less).

“Smart” Playgrounds Emerge While Reports Indicate Kids Already Suffer From Too Much Tech

Activist Post has reported many times about mainstream articles, news reports, magazine segments, and research about screen addiction and other health issues associated with kids’ excessive use of technology. Medical professionals are concerned about this. Documentary films have been produced including Child, Disrupted and Screenagers. Former tech designers, inventors, and investors are even remorseful because they’ve knowingly played a role in this:

“Nest Founder: ‘I Wake Up In Cold Sweats Thinking, What Did We Bring To The World?’”

OMG! So when communities install and promote “Smart” Playgrounds as a way to get kids to go outside and play, it sounds more like a skit on Saturday Night Live than something that’s actually happening. But it really is happening, and according to a spokesperson from Biba “it just makes so much sense”:

“It just makes so much sense to put technology with play,” says BIBA spokesperson Kaleigh DeHart. “Kids are already doing that every day and this really takes it to the next level meshing it with the playground everyone knows from their childhood.”

Say what? The playground is supposed to be a place to take a break from everything – even technology, right? Unfortunately, she’s not alone in her reasoning:

Fantasy 6 to Bring Augmented Reality Technology to Biba Smart Playgrounds

By engaging with children via the digital rewards and achievements to which they have become accustomed, “smart” playgrounds are able to get children back to real fun, in the real world.

Every single word in this statement sounds insane, right? Regardless, as reported in Norfolk, VA, this is still being promoted as getting kids away from screens and playing outside even though it’s technology based and using augmented reality which isn’t the same as actual reality:

Norfolk “smart” playgrounds harness the creative power of augmented reality

Slides, swings, monkey bars and an augmented reality.

A company is using technology to help lead kids away from screens and encourage outside play. The trick: mobile games on apps.

‘Crimes against humanity:’ France to face lawsuit in ICC over nuclear tests in French Polynesia

A suit has been filed against France with the International Criminal Court over the nuclear tests conducted in the South Pacific. While local studies say the tests led to cancer, Paris is reluctant to take responsibility.

The move was announced by the French Polynesia’s former president, Oscar Temaru, at a meeting of the UN commission focused on decolonization."This case aims to hold all the living French presidents accountable for the nuclear tests against our country,” he said, as cited by AFP.

DEA Grants Pharmaceutical Company Monopoly on Medical CBD

News circulated recently that the DEA had rescheduled cannabidiol (CBD), the nonpsychoactive ingredient in cannabis, but the technicalities of the agency’s decision actually show their ruling is highly restrictive.

The decision concerned a recently FDA-approved pharmaceutical version of CBD, produced by GW Pharmaceuticals. Due to the federal government’s continued prohibition of cannabis Epidiolex was prohibited from going to market unless the DEA rescheduled CBD. That’s what the agency did, leading some to believe that “since this FDA-approved medication is pure cannabidiol (CBD) that all CBD products fall into the same category,” Forbes noted.

But that is not the case. The DEA decision applies only to “FDA-approved” drugs, meaning they have just granted GW Pharmaceuticals a monopoly on plant-derived CBD (hemp-derived CBD is no longer restricted). The DEA said as much in a statement to NBC affiliate WTHR:

“What this does not do is legalize or change the status of CBD oil products,” DEA spokesperson Rusty Payne said. “As of right now, any other CBD product other than Epidiolex remains a Schedule I controlled substance, so it’s still illegal under federal law.”

“There is misunderstanding that cannabis or CBD will be immediately rescheduled, but that is not the case; it will be Epidiolex itself,” attorney Shawn Hauser told Forbes. Hauser, a senior associate with Denver-based Vicente Sederberg LLC and director of law firm’s Hemp and Cannabinoid Group, said the media had misconstrued the DEA’s decision:

“What is getting scheduled is the Epidiolex itself, pursuant to the new drug application, relating to its medical efficacy and low potential for abuse. That will inform the federal law for the future. Marijuana is still a Schedule I substance; CBD is not scheduled itself, but as a substance derived from marijuana.”

Despite the approval of GW Pharmaceuticals’ CBD product, under federal law, no other plant-based CBD is allowed. This prohibition is the basis of an adolescent girl’s lawsuit against the Department of Justice, through which she is fighting to be able to use her CBD medication, which she uses to treat epilepsy, in all parts of the country (as opposed to just Colorado, where her family moved from Texas in order to access it).

Not a smoker? Doesn’t matter, because the SAME DEADLY CHEMICALS in cigarettes are also found in conventional food, medicine, and personal care products

Non-smokers tend to look down on smokers, thinking “they’re doing it to themselves” by poisoning their bodies unnecessarily, knowing good and well that the boatload of chemicals in commercial cigarettes are burning up the tissue in their lungs, robbing their system of nutrients, and inviting cancer cells to develop. Well, guess what? Attention all non-smokers… if you’re not eating mostly organic food, filtering your water, using natural medicine, and using organic personal care products, then you yourself are consuming, ingesting, digesting, and suffering from many of the same chemicals that are purposely embedded in cancer sticks. It’s time to wake up and “smell the coffee.”

And you thought it was just smokers who were “doing themselves in”

First off, let’s talk about the horrific toxins in cigarettes and why they’re allowed to be manufactured that way. Ammonia is used to freebase the tobacco leaves so the nicotine is converted into a vapor-ready form that hits the heart and brain inside of 3 seconds. Exposure to ammonia causes coughing and irritates the nose and throat, eventually causing irreversible damage to the very soft epithelial tissue inside the windpipe and lungs. Cancer cells are prone to attack weakened tissue that’s been chronically damaged over time. That ammonia is also why second-hand cigarette smoke burns your eyes, because some of it is still present in the exhaled smoke.

Most cigarettes are wrapped in white paper. Paper comes from trees. Trees are brown. That paper is bleached. Every puff every smoker takes off a cigarette means they’re smoking bleach. Bleach is a leading cause of pancreatic cancer, which has the lowest survival rates of all cancers. Bleach also causes bladder and prostate cancer.

Hurricane knocks out 42 percent of U.S. Gulf of Mexico oil output

Hurricane Michael on Wednesday cut 42 percent of U.S. Gulf of Mexico daily crude oil production and nearly a third of natural gas output, the largest reductions in a year, after companies evacuated staff and shut-in platforms as a precaution.

Michael slammed into the Florida Panhandle on Wednesday as a fast-moving, Category 4 storm bringing heavy rains and winds of 155 miles per hour (249 kph) to the U.S. southeast.

Companies turned off daily production of 718,877 barrels of oil and 812 million cubic feet of natural gas by midday on Wednesday, according to the federal offshore regulator, the Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement (BSEE).

Despite the fall in output, U.S. crude futures CLc1 settled down more than 2 percent at $73.17 per barrel on Wednesday, tracking the weaker U.S. stock market and reflecting the declining importance of Gulf of Mexico output due to burgeoning growth from onshore shale fields.

Wednesday’s cuts represent about 6.5 percent of the nation’s daily output of 11.1 million barrels of crude. It is the most since Hurricane Nate a year ago curtailed more than 90 percent of Gulf oil production.
