Actually, I'd think that a battery/generator combo, where the generator, which creates dirtier power charges the battery which provides the power. I would think that you could run power, from the grid or a generator, into batteries, and you'd be completely isolated from power outages.
Yeah, those things are true. But the advantage is that your power doesn't go out. So, it's a trade off. You also can buy power cheaper in the middle of the night. You can buy a lot of battery power, and you charge the battery once a day during the lowest cost period.
I can't remember what the original issue was. Something about a battery front end on a generator being useful. Seems useful. Don't think it's some huge thing. There are probably generators with battery front ends.
