Oil is sequestered carbon. So is coal. Stored in the ground, not participating in the atmosphere. Dig it up/burn it it gets released. Then need to deal with that added amount.

 

Ethanol as a fuel is not as efficient/more costly as burning fossil fuels, but its production and use becomes a cycle re-utilizing atmospheric CO2. Reducing release of sequestered sources.

 

Personally, I dont give a fuck either way as a chug down the road in my 15 mpg F150โ€ฆ to hell with the future. But I can see there could be value in generating fuel from plants.
