first off. they didn't invent this shit. they monitored what paid propagandists were already doing online and wrote about it for an audience even more clueless than themselves.

second. they made the same fatal mistake as those who came before them: engaging in interactive psy-ops reveals your tactics to your targets and trains your targets in your tactics. your targets them become an inoculating force that spreads the antidote to the larger population.

when propaganda was one way (tv, radio, newspaper) the lack of interactivity made it very difficult to discover the techniques. it was basically the voice of god speaking to the public.
