“I don’t understand this,” tweeted Vox News’ Matt Yglesias. “Couldn’t everyone in cycle go home while a dozen senators with safe seats rotate to hold the floor and refuse unanimous consent?”

I don't know the answer to this, maybe just that the Dems really care about their careers more than anything. This should make them beatable eventually in elections too.

Mitch McConnell is one of the most interesting people in politics.

On second thought, I believe there are certain adjournments, and the only way they can play the trick of one senator keeping the place in session is if "all" senators agree, all 100. So if MItch refuses to go along with that, the Dems couldn't do it. He could adjourn the Senate, and then Trump could make all the recess appointments he likes.

Good to hear from you panhandle-anon. Sounds like after Sandy here in the NYC suburbs (not the flooded area) but with a bit more community spirit than we had – but we didn't have many needing to be rescued. We had strong healthy trees snapped in half too.

I hope you folks up in the Panhandle will be able to VOTE Nov. 6, or early. It would be terrible to lose closely contested races because of this natural disaster.

Now the #metoo hysteria is significantly diminshed (post-Blasey-Ford) and they're suddenly including men in their movement because they're losing conservative women.

tbh I don't remember what Roseanne did, but anyway this shows the left's weakness to come out and have second thoughts, and try to lure her back probably, now and not earlier.

I am not confident she won't go back. She wants the income and the job. She's said so, with tears in her eyes.

Clogged or blocked fuel lines they say. That can be a real problem, in a plane needing constant dynamic control because it's naturally so unstable. You can't just glide it, it would probably drop like a rock.

Cool. Now use the issue against those Dem incumbent senators, saying they ran from Washington rather than trying to fight for judicial seats. Keep their base demoralized and at home.
