To solve the crime crisis in Chicago and other areas I have an idea. I took a crime in America class in college and jobs directly correlates with crime. What about a “walk up and work” program? All you need is 2 forms of ID and to show up. Immediately you are given an assignment to work for a base pay starting at 12 per hour. You get paid the same day in a check or direct deposit. Once you complete 30 days of work or certain amount of hours and get good reviews from supervisor you are eligible for bonuses. Will create an ongoing incentive to work, stay off the street and gain skills. All jobs provide on the job training and then workers become trainers. No drug test/background check because the jobs offered there will be no need. Manufacturing jobs, clerical work and construction.

There are many people that want work but cannot due to their background, pending cases or DL issues. The criminal justice system is broken and favors the rich, this could help in just getting people income without any discrimination. Many good people cannot find work and end up making bad decisions to get food on the table or pay rent. Why do people commit crimes? Money, bad family environment, peer pressure. Having a job, your support system grows. Just a thought on what we could do instead of “stop and frisk” policies that, like Kanye said, would be a bad idea because respect is broken on both sides; community and police. Let’s get away from the prison programs and get people to work! What do y’all think?

Then we have to reach them when they’re young. Shit, show them! Have a field trip to the pen, but also field trips to super nice areas of the city or career field trips(what happened to those?) Show them what they can achieve if they show resilience from their environment. Many inner city kids never see outside their hood. I like to drive through nice neighborhoods to motivate me to graduate college and I did. School or work skills will get you fancy stuff you want and take care of your needs. I just don’t think harder police efforts is the way to peace.
