Seeing that these guys are American, that would be either 82nd Airborne or another 18th Airborne Corps unit. Essentially, the maroon beret is worn by Airborne units only.

Depending on the exact state, there are options. I'm 63, retired Army, currently serve in a state Title 32 militia (not the good ole boy kind). We answer to our governor, through our state Adjutant General. Most states have one.

No. But, we answer to the state AG (National Guard) and the governor would be hard pressed to even attempt to override that. I didn't join because of here, though. Hard to say much more, short of doxing myself. Yeah, the left knows who I am, but they don't know I'm here, or this is me. Trust me, I've made national level news coverage for standing up.

Non sanctioned (not Title 32 USC) militia membership is dumb. Reasons have been laid out, trust me, they're true.

Reserves are mostly non-combat.

NG (National Guard) is mostly combat, or support thereof. Both have a cut off of 60 years old.

Sheriffs deputy can also be hard, In my state virtually impossible, and I know the county Sheriff well. Schooling is required, in my state. Worth checking though.

Title 32 militia (like a state guard) is possible, and my state says 80 is the limit (and a few have gone over 80). I'm in my state Title 32 militia. We are real, and answer to the state Adjutant General. I'm a staff officer, I can say that much. Also retired Army.
