It's not just a plant. It's a plant that is smoked to induce mind altering effects. And people pay lots of money for this plant. And evil people (drug dealers) make tons of money from it, which they use to fund other drug operations, guns, and more. Some of them lace their marijauna with other substances to get their buyers hooked.

Nice rant, but you're wrong. I prefer cannabis to alcohol myself. But the original post I replied to was someone saying "you can be thrown in jail for holding a plant in your hand that grows out of the ground", and that's what I took issue with. It's not just a plant like a rose bush or a boxwood. It's also a drug. Should it be illegal? Hard to say, there are pros and cons to it. Smoking it is definitely bad for your health, but then cigarettes are legal. There are other ways of consuming it. But what about long term psychosis issues with heavy use? It's not 100% harmless. Maybe it should be legalized and controlled, just like alcohol. Or maybe it should only be legalized for medical use. I don't have the solution, but it IS a complex problem, and all the bullshit "it's just a plant that grows out of the ground! It's harmless!" is exactly that, bullshit.

Sure, in theory, but you and I both know the majority of users couldn't be bothered to go through the work of growing their own. It's much easier to just grab a bag from a supplier when you want it.
