Why do God’s children worship idols? The commandments are clear. We are commanded to “have no other Gods before me.” We are also commanded to

“not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing in heaven above, or things which are in the earth beneath.” Yet mankind replaces God in their hearts with his own god; the power, wealth, desires and physical objects of a heart corrupted by the influence of Satan.

Jesus said, “Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. The world will be a much better place when these words replace idols in the hearts of man.

Moses made a brazen serpent as a representation of the Savior in the wilderness. This was because the children of Israel spoke against God as they wandered in the wilderness and found themselves punished by fiery flying serpents. The venomous bites were fatal; yet the wanderers were required to just gaze upon the brass serpent to be healed. Many refused and died because of the easiness of the “cure” and perished. As the brass serpent was raised up, so was Christ; all who look to Him for redemption are healed of their sins.

Yet, even like the children of Israel, who later WORSHIPPED THE BRASS SEPENT, today mankind looks beyond the mark. “King Hezekiah brake in pieces the brasen serpent that Moses had made: for unto those days the children of Israel did burn incense to it: and he called it Nehushtan.” (Meaning a piece of brass.)

God was trying the children of Israel to sanctify them. He is the Creator and we are created in his image. To love God and obey Him gives Him glory. Satan seeks to destroy us by leading us away from God, destroying our souls. Essentially, the more people whose hearts are knit together to follow God, the less influence Satan has over ALL OF US. If you’re confused how simple the plan is, with faith follow God until you gain the light and knowledge you need to stop looking beyond the mark. Jesus Christ marked the path clearly, follow Him at all costs, do not be deceived by idols.
