Does the purging of Obama holdovers (firings + resignations), and Trump's Federal Judicial appointments, tell us anything, other than that's exactly what every other President has done once entering office (filling the government with people dedicated to the administrations political mindset).
The Federal Judiciary (How many judges did Obama nominate): The total number of Obama Article III judgeship nominees to be confirmed by the United States Senate is 329, including two justices to the Supreme Court of the United States, 55 judges to the United States Courts of Appeals, 268 judges to the United States district courts, and four judges to the United States Court of International Trade. Obama did not make any recess appointments to the federal courts.
And DJT? As of October 11, 2018, the United States Senate has confirmed 84 Article III judges nominated by President Trump, including 2 Associate Justices of the Supreme Court of the United States, 29 judges for the United States Courts of Appeals, 53 judges for the United States District Courts, and 0 judges for the United States Court of International Trade. There are currently 57 nominations to Article III courts awaiting Senate action, including 7 for the Courts of Appeals, 48 for the District Courts, and 2 for the Court of International Trade. Trump has not made any recess appointments to the federal courts so far.
And what of those in Executive Branch Departments (Obama removes all bush holdovers): (05/15/2009) "Obama to replace U.S. Attorneys - President Barack Obama plans to replace a "batch" of U.S. Attorneys in the next few weeks and more prosecutors thereafter, according to Attorney General Eric Holder"…
(11/12/2009) "Obama Administration Intends to Purge Republicans From the Civil Service - It is a typical Washington process that many political appointees are able to take jobs within the civil service once their political appointment expires - usually at the conclusion of one administration. What often happens as well is Congressional staffers, before an election or shortly thereafter, will move over to the Executive Branch placed into the civil service, in effect, by appointment… Barack Obama is changing that. He intends to purge all Republicans from the federal bureaucracy retroactive to five years ago"…
(06/17/2009) "White House Defends Inspector General’s Firing - The White House said Wednesday that President Obama had dismissed a government agency’s internal watchdog because he was incompetent and had behaved bizarrely, disputing accusations that he was fired because he had uncovered embarrassing problems in the AmeriCorps program. Last week, Mr. Obama abruptly fired the watchdog, Gerald Walpin, the inspector general of the Corporation for National and Community Service, who was a holdover from the Bush administration, saying little except that he had lost confidence in Mr. Walpin"…
What about "leaks" to the press: (06/11/2010) "Obama Takes a Hard Line Against Leaks to Press - In 17 months in office, President Obama has already outdone every previous president in pursuing leak prosecutions. His administration has taken actions that might have provoked sharp political criticism for his predecessor, George W. Bush, who was often in public fights with the press"….
And then there's Placing Political appointees throughout government: (10/08/2010) "Obama Justice Department plays Snooki - When George W. Bush appointees at the Justice Department used political considerations in hiring career employees, official Washington exploded in outrage. Yet we hear barely a peep of protest now as the Obama Justice Department does the same thing for liberal ends"…
These are but a small sampling. So I ask. Is what is happening in the current administration, nothing more than what usually happens when any new administration takes office and settles in? Are there more firings/resignations than usual? Perhaps. And I am not saying that we won't ever see "arrests and pain", but is much of what we are seeing here just more of the 'same old, same old'? I guess only time will tell!
