Watching The Hunt for Red October again tonight, along with director's commentary.
Who is Captain Ramius?
On the surface, and to most observers, he is a primary figure on the enemy side. But he disagrees with those giving him orders and has an elaborate and risky plan not just to join the other side but expose the enemy's secrets to them.
The enemy believes that he is going to turn and tries a number of measures to take him down before he can join the other side and destroy them. They send their own guys out to try and take him down. But they also tell us that in fact he he has a plan to destroy us so that we'll take him down for them.
A few people on our side speculate that he is actually working for us despite most appearances to the contrary – although justifiably most widely doubt the theory.
Who would be another similar figure whose allegiance is muddy – where most observers on both sides are fooled as to whose side he is actually on?
Or, alternatively, who might be playing a role? That they are performing their job publicly in the way that is expected of them, knowing that the private reality may be different?
Gap in Q's Red October references between Mar 6 and Aug 28. Then several since then. Many refer repeatedly to two figures:
Kavanaugh
Rosenstein
(e.g. pics related)
Incidentally, the director's commentary to Red October highlights that the people working the subs were not the typical military brawn types that you would expect in the army, navy etc. They were engineers, mathematicians etc. selected for their brains, intellect and ability to make quick calculations (they had to pilot a large vessel solely by sonar, math etc. – they could not rely on sight). They were the original military autists.
