US Marines reveal plans for plasma crowd control weapon that can shout at people from 3,000 feet away - then be 'turned up' to temporarily blind and even burn them

Scalable Compact Ultra-short Pulse Laser System will be mounted on a truck

Will be used for 'security and crowd control applications'

Could also be used by 'many other U.S. Government agencies as well as civilian law enforcement'

The US Marines are developing a new laser weapon that can transmit voice messages at long range, or be turned up to deafen, dazzle or even kill.

The Scalable Compact Ultra-short Pulse Laser System (SCUPLS) will be mounted on a truck or tank.

It will initially be used as a non-lethal weapon for crowd control, according to US Government documents.

WHAT IT CAN DO

The weapon can produce a range of effects.

At the lowest setting, the weapon can produce speech, and it will be able to warn people upto 3,200 feet (1,000m) away by delivering voice messages.

When it gets closer, the weapon will deliver a 'Flash-bang effect' by sending an 'acoustic blast of ~ 165+ dB at minimum distance of 100 meters'.

It will also be able to send a 'Flash blind effects (6-8 million candela)' momentarily blinding people at minimum distance of 100 meters

The highest setting of the current model will let loose 'Full scalable thermal ablative effects' through common natural clothing (i.e., fabric, denim, leather, etc.) at minimum distance of 100 meters. This would painfully vaporise the outer layer of skin – rather than burning it will be turned into gas.

The aim of the project is to 'Develop a lightweight and energy efficient next-generation Ultra-Short Pulse Laser (USPL) system that can produce sustainable and controllable plasma at range capable of inducing a full spectrum of scalable non-lethal effects.'

The weapon works using an igniter laser, that fires an intense short pulse powerful enough to create a ball of plasma.

This can be created in mid-air, or on the surface of a target.

A stronger detonator laser then explodes the plasma ball, which can be used to create 'enhanced non-lethal effects such as flash bang effects, thermal ablation for pain, and delivery of intelligible voice commands at range' according to military documents.

However, the weapon could also eventually be used to kill.

Top Hollywood executives donate $4million to the Democrats for the Midterms with Bill Maher donating $1million

The biggest Hollywood donations went almost all to Democrats

Top executives and entertainers have given 99.7 percent of their more than $4 million in federal donations to Democrats

HBO's Bill Maher donated $1 million to the Senate Majority PAC

Netflix CEO Reed Hastings gave $500,000 and William Morris Endeavor talent agency executives Ari Emanuel and Patrick Whitesell contributed $100,000

Directors Steven Spielberg gave $549,000 and J.J. Abrams $347,500

But Saturday Night Live creator Lorne Michaels gave $5,000 to the Republicans

With the Midterm election just weeks away, donations are pouring into Democrat party coffers, none so than from the Hollywood elite who are always a reliable source of contributions when it comes to boosting campaign finances.

Out of more than $4 million that has been donated so far by Hollywood's top entertainers and executives 99.7% went to the percent went to the Democratic party and Democratic-leaning political action committees or organizations.

HBO host Bill Maher led the field in terms of donations from Tinseltown with a cool $1 million. He was closely followed by Netflix CEO Reed Hastings with a donation for $500,000 and Endeavor executives Ari Emanuel and Patrick Whitesell for $120,400 and $147,400 respectively.

A list compiled by The Hollywood Reporter reviewed data collected by the Federal Election Commission.

Some of Hollywood's biggest directors have long contributed to the Democrats and 2018 is no different. Steve Spielberg donated $549,000 and while J.J. Abrams donated $347,500.

Just three members of the 100-strong list of donations made to political parties, were for Republicans.

Saturday Night Live creator Lorne Michaels gave $5,000 to moderate Republican Senator Susan Collins; WarnerMedia CEO John Stankey gave $2,000 to both Tennessee Republican Senate candidate Marsha Blackburn and the National Republican Congressional Committee while iacom CEO Bob Bakish gave $1,500 to Republican Georgia Senator Johnny Isakson and $1,000 to Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell.

Aside from generous individuals, talent management agencies were also consistent in their donations.

The Creative Artists Agency (CAA) Managing Partner Bryan Lourd gave $106,300 in donations, followed by ICM Partners Managing Director Chris Silbermann with $54,700 and CAA Managing Partner Kevin Huvane $47,300.

Netflix chief executive Reed Hastings made 14 donations totaling $546,600.

But not all of Hollywood leans Democratic with entertainment company political action committees generally striving to be fairer in their political leanings.

The 21st Century Fox PAC gave $80,500 to Democrats competing for House seats and a similar amount, $80,000, to Republicans competing for House seats.

In the Senate, the PAC gave $66,675 to Democrats and $44,000 to Republicans races.

John Travolta's 16-year-old son, Jett, died Friday morning at the family's vacation home in The Bahamas after what the family's lawyer says was a seizure-related incident. The family, including Jett Travolta's mother, Kelly Preston, and his 8-year-old sister, Ella, had been celebrating the New Year in The Bahamas

Jett Travolta, the 16-year-old son of actor John Travolta and wife Kelly Preston, died Friday while on vacation with his family in the Bahamas.

Jett had suffered a seizure at his family’s vacation home at the Old Bahama Bay Hotel on Grand Bahama Island, said Michael Ossi, a lawyer for the family, in a statement through Travolta’s rep.

The teen hit his head in a bathtub Friday morning and was declared dead at Rand Memorial Hospital, police spokeswoman Loretta Mackey told the Associated Press.

According to police, a caretaker had found Jett unconscious in the bathroom around 10 a.m. An autopsy is being pursued to determine the exact cause of death.

Jett, who is the only son of Travolta, 54, and Preston, 46, had a history of seizures, according to Ossi. The couple also have a daughter, Ella Bleu, 8.

The death was first reported by TMZ.

In 2003 Preston told Montel Williams that when Jett was 2 he became “very, very ill, but it seemed like flu symptoms” before being diagnosed with Kawasaki disease. The condition, which usually affects children from ages 2 to 5, can cause inflammation of the arteries. Usually treatable, it can lead to lasting heart damage in rare cases.

Preston, who also said Jett suffered from asthma, blamed household cleaners, fertilizers and pesticides for sparking the condition and lobbied for more detailed labeling on chemical products. She credited a detoxification program based on the writings of Scientology founder L. Ron Hubbard with helping to improve Jett’s health.
