Imo it was created by DS, see the Economist Cover 1988 and since it was allowed to be monetized (i.e. options) it was still under DS control until earlier this year.
Strip out all the shitty players in it ala the PR cartel and you actually have something that is transcendental.
The potential applications for chain tech is pretty limitless.
