Revealed: Secret Service Foiled ISIS Assassination Attempt On President Trump

Just one year into his term, President Donald Trump was the target of a credible assassination plot attributed to ISIS — but the U.S. Secret Service managed to foil the attempt, according to a report that will air on National Geographic channel on Sunday.

According to Anthony Ornato, the Special Agent in Charge of the Presidential Protective Division, chatter led his agents to believe that a credible threat was present on the ground when President Trump was scheduled to touch down in Manila, Philippines, for the ASEAN 50 summit in November 2017.

The Daily Beast reports:

“There is credible information that an incident could occur during ASEAN,” says Special Agent Gibson, leading the Secret Service’s personnel brief in Manila. Pointing to a map of ISIS and ISIS-affiliated threat actors, she adds, “As of this week, the Philippines has escalated to a critical threat level.” (Days before the president’s visit, ISIS issued a series of threats—via video—that featured a picture of the president filled with bullets, and a message urging jihadists to “lie in wait” and “ambush” POTUS in the Philippines.)

Prior to President Trump’s arrival on Air Force One, a PID agent informs Special Agent Gibson that he’s come across a credible threat against POTUS—in the form of a tweet reading, “Gonna be in Manila the same time as Trump… I’ll take one for the team lads,” accompanied by a mugshot of Lee Harvey Oswald. And on his Instagram, they find a photo of the male suspect wielding a copy of the book How to Kill: The Definitive History of the Assassin. The PID agents then track his IP address and discover that the man is indeed located in downtown Manila, kilometers away from the president’s hotel, and his social media posts reveal that he is traveling in the direction of the president’s hotel. They continue to monitor him.

The situation came to a head when, 20 minutes prior to Air Force One touching down in Manila, Secret Service still did not have the suspect’s exact location. Chad Ragan, the Secret Service agent in charge for the trip, demanded answers. “I need an update, NOW!” he said.

Within minutes, the suspect was tracked to Luneta Park — just a mile from the hotel where President Trump was scheduled to stay — where he was meeting with someone. With the help of the Philippine National Police (FNP), Secret Service agents swept the park and apprehended the suspect.

Special agent Ragan attributes much of the Secret Service’s success to technology, saying, “We were able to know that he was moving close to us, where he was, and track him. That was a huge piece of stopping the threat.”

But Ragan also noted that their job would be much more difficult without all the help they get from local law enforcement everywhere they go. “That’s an essential key to it that can’t be understated, is how great these foreign governments are, or even locals,” he explained. “If we go to Topeka, Kansas, the local law enforcement is such a help. We get so much support from the host committee, or the host country.”

UK, EU 'Pause' Brexit Deal Negotiations, Blowing Monday Deadline: Reuters

Update II: After two days of frenzied negotiations, Reuters has finally confirmed that EU and UK negotiators have decided to put discussions surrounding a preliminary Brexit agreement on hold. Though the "Brexit deal" they had been hoping for was merely a nonbinding "political statement" laying the foundation for a more substantive agreement down the road, resistance from within May's conservative party has apparently shifted the dealmaking caluclus in favor of blowing Monday's self-imposed deadline and waiting for Wednesday's regular EU meeting before giving talks another shot.

"Despite constructive and intensive negotiations, several key issues remain unresolved," one senior EU diplomat said. "No further negotiations are planned ahead of the European Council. The EU negotiator will brief the leaders who will then assess the progress so far."

While negotiators have held the exact details of the agreement close, it appears objections over the status of Northern Ireland and a "temporary customs arrangement" have been the biggest sticking points. While the outcome of these talks is looking increasingly uncertain, the one thing analysts can say for sure is that markets, which have optimistically priced in a resolution to the increasingly fraught negotiations, won't be pleased to hear this.

Update: In the latest indication that this weekend's frenzied negotiations will end in a stalemate, Reuters reports that EU leaders have been notified that no deal has been reached. Meanwhile, reports have emerged that Monday's meeting, which was intended to finalize the details of an outline Brexit treaty ahead of a larger summit of EU leaders on Wednesday, has been cancelled.

The Supremacy Clause: The Constitution Is Supreme

Article 6 clause 2 of the Constitution is known as the Supremacy Clause. This clause in our Constitution is often misquoted, misapplied, and misinterpreted. Those who support an overgrown and supreme federal power like to use this clause to beat the States into a powerless submission to every asserted federal authority. Is that really what the designers of our Constitution meant when they placed this clause into the Constitution?

The Supremacy Clause reads:

This Constitution, and the Laws of the United States which shall be made in Pursuance thereof; and all Treaties made, or which shall be made, under the Authority of the United States, shall be the supreme Law of the Land; and the Judges in every State shall be bound thereby, any Thing in the Constitution or Laws of any State to the Contrary notwithstanding.

A plain reading of this text tells us several things:

1. This Constitution, shall be the supreme Law of the Land.

2. The Laws of the United States which shall be made in Pursuance to the Constitution are the supreme Law of the Land.

3. Treaties made under the Authority of the United States shall be the supreme Law of the Land.

To some, they will this is hyperbole. To some others they will say this is delusional paranoia. Please allow me to remind the readers that it Hillary Clinton, when asked about the deplorables, who said they needed to be put away in “fun camps” (ie FEMA camps).

Saudi King Salman: No One Can Undermine Strong Ties With Turkey - Reports

King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud emphasized the strength of the relationship between Riyadh and Ankara in a telephone call with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, the Saudi press agency said Sunday.

According to the Saudi press agency, King Salman thanked Erdogan for welcoming the Saudi government's proposal to form a joint working group to probe the disappearance of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi, and stressed no one could undermine their relationship.

Khashoggi, who has been working for The Washington Post newspaper and has been known for his criticism of Saudi authorities, went missing in Turkey on October 2. According to his fiancee, Khashoggi entered the Saudi consulate in the Turkish city of Istanbul and never came out.

The Washington Post reported on Friday that the Turkish authorities had shared with the United States audio and video recordings suggesting the journalist had been murdered in the Saudi consulate. Moreover, the outlet claimed that Saudi Crown Prince Mohammad Bin Salman Al Saud had sought to bring Khashoggi to Saudi Arabia and detain him there.

Syrian Army Launches New Attack Against ISIS Cells In Al-Safa

A source in the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) told SouthFront on October 14 that the army and former fighters of the Free Syrian Army (FSA) launched a new attack on the remaining ISIS cells in the heavily fortified area of al-Safa, north of the governorate of al-Suwayda.

From its side, the ISIS news agency Amaq reported that the terrorist group’s fighters ambushed two units of the SAA in al-Safa. As a result, a BMP-1 armored vehicle was damaged and two personnel of the SAA were killed.

Syrian delegation at IPU session affirms rejection of Turkish attempts to politicize return of displaced Syrians home

Member of the People’s Assembly Gabriere Ranissian said that Turkey has contributed to the war on Syria since the beginning of the crisis and facilitated the transporting, arming and financing of terrorists and oversaw the theft of hundreds of plants from Aleppo and then transporting and selling them in Turkey.

For his part, MP Samir al-Khatib affirmed Syria’s rejection of the Turkish attempts to politicize the return of Syrian refugees to their country by setting preconditions on the Syrian state as these attempts are considered a blatant interference in the internal affairs of Syria.
