Constitutional Convention in the US is a BAD idea as it allows those present to scrap the original document and write a different one. The "best" way to ammend the document and preserve the case law underpinning law as it is/used to be, is by ratification of ammendments and the appointment of strict constituionalist SC justices.

If not the "best" way it is probably the safest. My opinion.
