Lawfag here. Just wondering if you've ever read a case book (or even a case)? Application of law is fully laid out in every case. Laws that govern the subject matter are clearly spelled out and then APPLIED. This process can be followed from start to finish by reading each case. I won't deny that laws are quite often misapplied, but that is not what we are discussing here. It is not maritime law that is being applied in tort, contract, property or criminal law unless the case deals specifically with subject matter that is within the jurisdiction of maritime law.

Look, I've heard this for years. I know people point to the gold fringe on the flag and say that means we are being governed by a police state. I'm willing to go along with a lot of this stuff (all the way over 40,000 feet to the aliens), but your statement is simply untrue.

Also, when you say "common law," you do know you are referring to BRITISH common law from which our own laws developed, correct? We are not ruled by common law, we are ruled by American law which still contains some aspects of the common law from which it originally came.

Our justice system is supremely fucked up and that needs to be addressed, but you do a disservice to that entire conversation by posting bullshit like this.
