Former CIA Director Brennan Says Claims of Innocence by Riyadh ‘Ring Hollow’

Speaking in an interview for NBC, Brennan expressed his doubts about Saudi Arabia’s claims of innocence in the alleged killing of journalist Khashoggi.

Former CIA Director John Brennan suggested that Saudi Arabia's denials of involvement in the alleged murder of journalist Jamal Khashoggi "ring hollow."

"If Khashoggi had disappeared in Turkey when he was at a hotel or a private residence, I think there is plausible deniability on the part of the Saudi government. But he disappeared when there is video evidence of him being at the consulate," Brennan said, during an interview for NBC.

"Their denials ring hollow, very much ring hollow," he added. "To go after a permanent resident of the United States who writes for The Washington Post, and doing it on foreign soil, at a diplomatic mission, to me it would be inconceivable. That such an operation would be run by the Saudis without the knowledge of the day-to-day decision maker of Saudi Arabia, that's Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. I think it is just beyond reality."

Brennan argued that a thorough investigation of the incident is required and remarked that any prosecution of Saudi officials would eventually be up to King Salman. However, Brennan opined, the King is ageing and might not have enough political authority or even mental capacity to act effectively.

"He is aging and there are indications he has failed a bit, and whether or not now he is able to muster the strength and the capacity to find out what happened, including the role of his son," Brennan said.

According to Brennan, the de-facto leader of Saudi Arabia, Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, has been "emboldened" by the relationship he has with US President Donald Trump and his senior adviser and son-in-law Jared Kushner.

Brennan worked in Saudi Arabia, first as a political officer at the US embassy between 1982-1984, and later as a CIA station chief, between 1996-1999. Talking to NBC, the former spook said that there have been past princes under King Salman who had been held accountable for transgressions of the law, if not executions.

Questions?

  1. Wanna kill someone? I should do it at my embassy.

  2. How? I should make sure the victim is on camera walking in so there can be no doubt. & All local Turkish staff are sent home that day.

  3. What to do afterwards? Get every cabal POS WW to denounce the attack and demand instant justice before investigation. Have prepackaged evidence

'Never Been Enemies With US': Russian Envoy on Crisis in Moscow, Washington Ties

It is vital for the United States and Russia to be together today to prevent further deterioration of the situation which could result in serious crisis, Russian Ambassador to the United States Anatoly Antonov said on Sunday.

"Today as never before it is very important to remember that we have never been enemies with the United States. We don’t have any territorial claims issues. It is very important for us to be together today in order to prevent a crisis, and not to allow the situation to reach an edge when a war breaks out," Antonov told reporters.

The ambassador stressed that Russia was ready for a constructive dialogue with Washington to solve all the existing issues.

Antonov, who is currently on a visit to San Francisco, spoke after laying a wreath at the graves of Russian sailors buried in California.

Relations between the United States and Russia worsened following their disagreement over the crisis in Ukraine. The United States imposed several round of sanctions against Russia after Crimea held a referendum in 2014 in which a vast majority of residents decided to reunify with Russia.

Washington also accused Moscow of meddling in the 2016 US presidential election and has imposed additional rounds of sanctions. Russia has repeatedly denied the allegations.
