Top FBI lawyer's explosive deposition was 'cut short', Jim Jordan says

Fox Business anchor Maria Bartiromo, hosting her Fox News program "Sunday Morning Futures," noted that Baker will reappear before lawmakers on Thursday and asked Jordan was he wants to hear from Barker.

"Well, first of all, remember who this is. This is – this is the FBI chief counsel," Jordan, R-Ohio, said. "All kinds of things flow through him. So when he says that he believed [Deputy Attorney General] Rod Rosenstein was serious about this, this – this alleged statement about recording the president, you got to take that with the weight that it comes with, because it's the – it's the FBI chief counsel."

Jordan was referring to Baker's closed-door deposition earlier this month in which he said took the news of Rosenstein discussing wearing a wire to secretly record conversations with President Trump very seriously. After Rosenstein's comments were reported in the New York Times last month, Rosenstein sent out word through intermediaries that he hadn't really meant it.

"We're going to ask him more about [it]," Jordan said. "We – our previous deposition was cut off early. We ran out of time. So we need him back in there, where we're going to ask more about that specific meeting that took place, and then his conversations with people who were in that meeting, how those went and who all he talked to you."

During his the deposition, Baker also provided "absolute proof" that the FBI failed to inform the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court of pertinent Democratic interests when applying to spy on onetime Trump campaign official Carter Page, according to House Intelligence Committee Chairman Devin Nunes.

Watching @realDonaldTrump crush it on @60Minutes. Leslie Stahl getting combative but Trump is skilled at fielding her one sided questioning. 60 Minutes using a disingenuous tactic of cutting to Stahl narrating over video. Easy to see they are scrambling to redirect the narrative.

Wealthy will create ‘superhuman race’: Stephen Hawking essays reveal dark prediction

A collection of newly published essays written by Stephen Hawking before his death reveal the iconic physicist believed wealthy people could create a new race of “superhumans” by editing their children’s DNA.

The collection of articles and essays, which has appeared in part in the Sunday Times, will be published in their entirety as a book called: ‘Brief Answers to the Big Questions’, due to be released on October 16.

Hawking, who died in March, writes that he is sure breakthroughs in genetic engineering will allow people to create a superhuman race within this century. He also predicted that while laws will try to prevent it, the rich and greedy will be unable to resist the temptation.

Hawking added that the emergence of a superior race will soon lead to implications for “unimproved humans” who he presumed will eventually “die out or become unimportant.”

Hawking’s predictions stem from gene-editing technology that already exists. The Crispr-Cas9, invented six years ago, is a DNA-editing system that allows scientists to modify bad genes or add new ones, and it has been used to treat children that were predisposed to serious illnesses such as an otherwise incurable cancer.
