Whitmer running mate could lose Detroit apartment building over blight
The Detroit Land Bank Authority said Friday that the blighted condition of an apartment building it sold to Democratic lieutenant governor candidate Garlin Gilchrist II is "unacceptable" and they may move to repossess the property if it's not cleaned up and secured by Monday.
A native of Detroit who grew up in Farmington, Gilchrist worked for the city from 2014 to 2017. He lived out of state for several years, working for Microsoft in Redmond, Wash., as a computer engineer and a political organizer for the liberal group MoveOn.org in Washington, D.C.
