By any measure, Warren does not have enough Cherokee to claim Indian minority status. Still, I continue to be annoyed by the claims from the Cherokee Nation that you can not be Cherokee unless you have an ancestor on the Dawes rolls. In the 1800s there was a census of sorts, which counted everybody who claimed to be Cherokee. It included those who may have lied about their heritage, and did not include those who were full blooded Cherokee, but culturally chose to live in the white world (sometimes hiding their Cherokee heritage to avoid discrimination).
