carpe noctem: "enjoy the night"
If you were a Latinist, you would never look up a word in Wikipedia or "Dead Poets' Society." You would look in Lewis and Short.
I was astonished when I realized. No exaggeration. But I am used to things being hidden. So yeah.
The best translation of 'carpe diem' in English is "enjoy the day." The word carpe in Latin was used for plucking a fruit from a tree with the implication that you were going to eat it. If used poetically with diem'' or ''noctem, you would not translate it "pluck the day." In English we don't closely associate the eating with the plucking like the Romans did. The best word with which to confer the meaning of carpe' is "enjoy."
Enjoy
