Turkey says has given no recording of Khashoggi killing to United States
Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu said on Friday his country had not provided visiting U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo or any U.S. official with an audio recording proving that dissident Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi had been killed, the pro-government Hürriyet Daily News reported.
“Turkey did not give anyone or any country the recording. It is out of question for Turkey to give any kind of audio tape to Pompeo or any other U.S. official,” the newspaper quoted Çavuşoğlu as saying. “We have certain information and evidence,” he said, adding that Turkey was ready to publicise all the evidence in the case following the conclusion of the investigation.
The pro-government Yeni Şafak newspaper on Wednesday published what it said were quotes from audio tapes of the alleged killers cutting off the fingers of the 60-year-old journalist before decapitating him.
ABC News said on Thursday that Pompeo listened to the audio and was shown a transcript of the recording during a visit to Turkey this week, a report that Pompeo denied.
