Clarion Alley murals defaced with MAGA hats, pro-Kavanaugh graffiti

At least seven murals in San Francisco’s iconic Clarion Alley have been defaced with right-wing Republican slogans this weekend.

A mural touting immigrant rights has been plastered with red “Make America Great Again” hats, a hashtag followed by the phrase “Fake News” was painted over a mural of honoring people slain by police and “KAVANAUGH justice for all!” was plastered over a mural that used to read “JUSTICE FOR SAHLEEM TINDLE,” an Oakland man shot and killed by BART police.

The Clarion Alley Mural Project is run by a grassroots collective of artists based in the Mission District, aiming to highlight marginalized communities and social justice. Running between Mission and Valencia streets with murals all along its length, the alley is maintained by artists who volunteer their time and often pay for their own materials, according to the project’s website.

Though the murals have been defaced in the past, this vandalism is unique for its political messaging.

The attack appears to have taken place some time Friday night, and sources who visited the alley told the San Francisco Examiner at least seven murals have been vandalized.

The @clarionalleyofficial Instagram account, which the Examiner could not confirm was indeed an “official” account but is linked to a mural artist, recounted the destruction:

“So last night the alley got hit hard by Drumpfettewhite supremacist fascist vandals who destroyed countless murals adding horribly rendered MAGA hats (made in China) and messages of their tiny tangerine tyrant’s misogynist hate speech,” the account posted Saturday evening. “They didn’t have the talent, decency or dedication to simply paint their own mural expressing their small-minded uninformed hateful opinions, they had to express themselves by destroying the beauty created by marginalized minorities & low income volunteer community muralists … true Trump style.”

Verhofstadt is maniacally pro-migration and represents the interests of Soros and migration to the point of obsession – Hungary’s ruling party

Fidesz, Hungary’s ruling party, has accused Guy Verhofstadt, the group leader of the Liberals in the European Parliament, of mounting “a vicious attack on Hungary due to its refusal to turn the country into a land of immigration”.

In a Thursday interview to Hungarian weekly 168 Ora, Verhofstadt called on the European People’s Party, to which Fidesz belongs, to distance itself from Viktor Orban “and send him where he belongs, the dung heap of history, along with his new populist friends.

” He added that the Hungarian prime minister was “no longer a Christian nor a democratic leader”.

Balazs Hidveghi, the ruling Fidesz party’s communications chief, told public media on Thursday that Verhofstadt “preaches Christianity and democracy while presenting one of the biggest dangers to those values”.

He accused Verhofstadt of being a “maniacally pro-migration politician who represents the interests of [American financier] George Soros and migration to the point of obsession.” He also promotes the idea of a United States of Europe, he said, adding that both endangered a strong European Union.

The May EP election will provide a chance “to stop Guy Verhofstadt and his mates” from clinching the leadership and turning Europe into “a continent of migrants”, he said.
