Eric Holder Rallies Resistance Inside Trump Admin: ‘We Support You

Former Attorney General Eric H. Holder Jr. sent a message of encouragement to discontented Justice Department “career employees” on Friday morning. ''“Trump and Sessions are trying to destroy the traditions of the Justice Department,” Holder wrote. “Hope is found in the career employees who stand for institutional norms. Now is the time for them to continue to be strong – change will come. We support you.” Holder recently made news by pressing for the impeachment of President Trump under the 25th amendment.''

His message was a response to a report by the New York Times entitled “Justice Dept. Rank-and-File Tell of Discontent Over Sessions’s Approach,” compiling information and opinions gathered from “two dozen current and former career department lawyers who worked under Mr. Sessions.” Former Clinton administration Justice Department official Robert Litt told the Times he “can’t recall a time when morale has been as low as I have heard from some former colleagues.” Department spokeperson Sarah Isgur Flores disagrees. “We know of no department employee who is opposed to policies that uphold the rule of law and protect the American people,” she said in a statement, “which are precisely the policies that this department has implemented and embraced.” Flores further maintained that Sessions’ work was “vital” to the fights against violent crime, opioid abuse, and border security.

The anonymous resistance within the Justice Department may have Holder’s blessing, but as the oft-purported “blue wave” seems to be receding into more of a puddle, grandstanding from a distant presidential hopeful may not be enough.

'Halloween' Billboard Hijacked to Target Maxine Waters

Sabo, a conservative street artist, replaced a photo of killer Michael Myers with one of the congresswoman. A billboard advertising the new Halloween movie opening Friday was altered after a street artist swapped out an image of serial killer Michael Myers and replaced it with one of Maxine Waters.

The gigantic billboard at Pico Boulevard in West Hollywood remains intact, only the congresswoman is now holding the sharp butcher knife in her right hand, looking ready to plunge it into an unsuspecting victim. The phrase "#Uncivil Democrats" has also been added. Blumhouse and Universal are advertising the sequel to the 1978 classic slasher movie of the same title on several billboards in and around Hollywood, though in the dead of night a conservative artist known as Sabo hijacked one of them. Sabo tells The Hollywood Reporter that the text he added to the advertisement is a reference to Waters telling a crowd in June to make things uncomfortable for President Donald Trump and his Cabinet members.

"If you see anybody from that Cabinet in a restaurant, in a department store, at a gasoline station, you get out and you create a crowd," Waters said at a rally in Los Angeles. "You push back on them and you tell them they're not welcome anymore, anywhere." Since then, several notable Republicans have been confronted in public places, including Texas Sen. Ted Cruz, White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders, presidential senior adviser Stephen Miller and Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen. Halloween is expected to do brisk business this weekend, perhaps opening with north of $70 million domestically and setting a record for a movie during the Oct. 31 corridor. The film, directed by David Gordon Green, has original survivor Laurie Strode, played by Jamie Lee Curtis, preparing to defend herself should Myers return after 40 years of incarceration.
