Police: Jarrell was ready to carry out threat
Lawrenceburg trooper praised for stopping suspect, saving lives
UPDATED FRIDAY 3:30 P.M. - Dylan Jarrell was backing out of his driveway and ready to execute his manifesto to carry out “threats of bodily harm against multiple persons at a school” when trooper Josh Satterly stopped him in his tracks.
That was the chilling message during a news conference this afternoon at Kentucky State Police headquarters in Frankfort, during which Commissioner Rick Sanders praised Satterly and law enforcement as a whole for saving an untold number of lives.
Sanders refused to comment on any specifics about the case, including which school Jarrell allegedly planned to attack.
Jarrell, 20, of 507 Forrest Drive, lives next door to Anderson County High School, which canceled all classes today due to the threat. A threat warning was also issued by the Shelby County School District, which is on fall break but where The Anderson News has confirmed Jarrell attended high school before dropping out.
Sanders heaped praise on Satterly, a Lawrenceburg resident and former officer with the Lawrenceburg Police Department, saying it was Satterly’s hard work and dedication that lead to Jarrell’s arrest.
“Trooper Josh Satterly did his job well,” said Sanders. “Josh is a humble person. He’s out there right now, working on this case. He’s a humble, dedicated trooper.”
Satterly responded to call from a New Jersey woman after Jarrell allegedly sent threatening, racist messages to her on Facebook.
“Trooper Satterly looked into this thing thoroughly, found out we were going to work with federal agencies and local law enforcement to find out what lead this man to do what he did,” Sanders said.
“There is no doubt in my mind, as a result of this investigation, we saved lives. This young man had it in his mind to go to schools and do havoc. He had the tools necessary, the intent necessary, and the only thing that stood between him and doing evil is law enforcement.
“I’m here today to comment the men and women of law enforcement, especially trooper Josh Satterly for doing his job well.”
Jarrell had a number of firearms, including an AK-47 with a 100-round drum magazine, along with Kevlar vests and at least 200 rounds of ammunition at the time of his arrest.
The Kentucky State Police continues to investigate the situation, which began Thursday morning when a woman from New Jersey reported receiving what were described as racially motivated harassing Facebook messages from Jarrell.
Jarrell admitted to sending those messages, and when asked by the FBI about a past school shooting threat in which Jarrell was a suspect, Jarrell admitted making those threats, as well, according to a citation filed by trooper Josh Satterly.
Jarrell gave consent for his phone to be taken and searched. During that search, the threats of bodily harm against “multiple persons at a school” were found, according to the citation.
Jarrell is currently being housed in the Shelby County Detention Center on charges of second-degree terroristic threatening and harassing communications.
