One day after Saudi Arabia admitted that WaPo journalist and US resident Jamal Khashoggi was killed at the Saudi consulate, a senior official in Turkey's ruling party responded on Saturday saying that Turkey will "never allow a cover-up" of the Khashoggi killing, reflecting international skepticism over the official Saudi account released late on Friday that the writer died during a "fistfight."

The Turkish response was one of many critical reactions to the Saudi announcement of the writer’s violent death, indicating the kingdom’s efforts to defuse a scandal that has gripped the world were not only falling short, but likely to provoke even further scrutiny. U.S. President Donald Trump, however, was an exception. Asked late on Friday whether he thought the Saudi explanation was credible, he replied: "I do. I do."

Dutch PM Calls For Broader Investigation into Khashoggi Killing

The Dutch Prime Minister, Mark Rutte, on Saturday called for a deeper investigation into Saudi Arabia’s admission that Washington Post journalist Jamal Khashoggi died within the walls of Riyadh’s consulate in Istanbul.

"A lot still remains uncertain," Rutte noted to reporters in Copenhagen on Saturday.

"What happened? How did he die? Who is responsible?" he said, adding, "I expect and I hope that all relevant facts will be clear as soon as possible."

A "thorough investigation is necessary," the Dutch PM noted, cited by Reuters.

Khashoggi, a former Riyadh insider who wrote unsparingly of the kingdom's policies including its ongoing war in Yemen, disappeared after entering the Saudi consulate in Istanbul some two weeks ago, and has now been acknowledged by Saudi officials as having "died in a fistfight," according to CNN.

FBI Acknowledges Using Multiple Informants In Investigation Of Trump Campaign Aide

The U.S. government revealed Friday that it used multiple informants to obtain information against former Trump campaign adviser Carter Page.

In court filings, government officials also revealed confidential human sources were paid for their work.

The FBI relied heavily on an uncorroborated dossier to obtain warrants to spy on Page.

The U.S. government revealed in court filings Friday that the FBI used multiple confidential informants, including some who were paid for their information, as part of its investigation into former Trump campaign adviser Carter Page.

“The FBI has protected information that would identify the identities of other confidential sources who provided information or intelligence to the FBI” as well as “information provided by those sources,” wrote David M. Hardy, the head of the FBI’s Record/Information Dissemination Section (RIDS), in court papers submitted Friday.

Hardy and Department of Justice (DOJ) attorneys submitted the filings in response to a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) lawsuit for the FBI’s four applications for Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) warrants against Page. The DOJ released heavily redacted copies of the four FISA warrant applications on June 20, but USA Today reporter Brad Heath has sued for full copies of the documents.

Hardy’s declaration acknowledged that the confidential sources used by the FBI were in addition to Christopher Steele, the former British spy who authored the infamous anti-Trump dossier.

“This includes nonpublic information about and provided by Christopher Steele, as well as information about and provided by other confidential sources, all of whom were provided express assurances of confidentiality,” Hardy wrote, referring to information disclosed in the four FISA applications.

DUP Slams ‘Despicable, Low, and Rotten’ Irish PM for Using IRA Terror as Brexit Leverage

Irish taoiseach (prime minister) Leo Varadkar has been slammed by British unionist politicians in Northern Ireland for using a photograph of an IRA bombing as Brexit leverage.

Varadkar brandished a copy of a newspaper story about an IRA bombing at the Newry Customs Office in 1972, which killed nine and injured six, thinking this was a good way to underline the importance of Britain making concessions to the EU on customs checks between his country and the British province of Northern Ireland.

He described the pictures of the bombing rather unsubtly as a “useful prop” to show “all the European leaders the extent to which the concerns about the re-emergence of a hard border and the possibility of a return to violence are very real”.

The stunt was viewed with disgust by many in Northern Ireland, however, with some seeing it as a threat of sorts — particularly given insider claims that elements of the political elite and security establishment in the Republic of Ireland colluded with the IRA when they were at their most active.

The IRA, or Provisional Irish Republican Army, waged a decades-long campaign of assassinations and terrorism against British politicians, soldiers, police constables, and civilians in an effort to wrench Northern Ireland out of the United Kingdom and create a unified Irish state.

It kept up its terror campaign even after a 1973 referendum found a clear majority of Northern Ireland’s residents wanted to remain with the British, and even plotted to assist a Nazi invasion of the British province in its early history.

Sammy Wilson MP, whose Brexit-supporting, Northern Ireland-based Democratic Unionist Party (DUP) props up Prime Minister Theresa May’s minority government in Parliament, said Varadkar’s “threats to ‘ban British planes as revenge for Brexit’, suggestion that [Northern Irish] electricity supplies could be affected by Brexit, [and] outlandish comments that leaving the EU could result in a Berlin Wall along the Irish Border” had already made him a “laughing stock” and “diminished his standing as a politician who should in any way be taken seriously” — but that his invocation of IRA terror had put him beyond the pale.

The Irish leader, Wilson said, was “scrap[ing] the bottom of the very deep barrel of threats, deception and rhetoric which he has dipped into in order to persuade ignorant heads of EU states that the EU must insist in detaching NI from the UK in any Brexit deal,” and — worse — encouraging “republican madmen” to return to violence.

Varadkar’s behaviour, Wilson said in no uncertain terms, was “despicable, low, and rotten”.

Past victims of IRA terrorism and their bereaved families also criticised the taoiseach, saying they were “sickened” by his comments and accusing him of “trying to make people along the border feel anxious”.

Northern Irish MP Gregory Campbell wrote a formal letter to Varadkar, admonishing him for suggesting that a ‘No Deal’ Brexit could lead to terror attacks on customs checkpoints no-one wants to construct.

“The 1972 IRA bomb [used at Newry] was understood to have been made in County Louth, smuggled across the border and then detonated in Northern Ireland. This raises more questions about how the Irish Government of that day stood against the PIRA in County Louth than it does about customs posts,” he wrote.

“[T]o use that bomb attack to create fears of violence today amongst EU leaders is distasteful. It is also a disservice to victims.”

Salvini’s Italy Now Leads Europe in Number of Jihadi Deportations

While Italy has so far not experienced a major radical Islamic terror attack, the number of jihadis is rising in the country with Italy becoming the European nation with the highest number of jihad-related deportations this year.

So far this year Italy has expelled an average of ten radical Islamic jihadists per month, up from last year when the average was around eight per month, Gli Occhi Della Guerra reports.

The most recent deportation saw female Albanian jihadist Arta Kacabuni sent back to her home country after she was found guilty of joining the Islamic State terrorist group in 2015 and attempting to recruit her nephew and his wife for the terrorist organisation.

Some jihadists who have been expelled have even attempted to return to Italy, as was the case with Tunisian jihadist Imam Lamjed Ben Krajem, who was found by General Investigations and Special Operations Division (DIGOS) police on a barge heading to Sicily earlier this week.

The number of jihadis in Italy is rising not only because of illegal immigration but also radicalisation in Italian prisons, with Professor Paolo Branca, Islamologist at the Catholic University of Milan, claiming that some jihadists get arrested specifically in order to radicalise others in prisons.

One of the largest factors in other countries that has contributed to radicalisation has been the emergence of ghettoised areas, like Molenbeek in Brussels, Belgium or the Seine-Saint-Denis suburbs outside of Paris, France.

In an interview with Breitbart London last year, radical Islam expert professor Gilles Kepel noted the importance of the Paris suburbs in the history of radical Islam in the country.

Many believe that Italy does not have such ghettoised areas, but recent reports have shown that several heavily migrant-populated areas in Milan have schools with migrant-majority classrooms, a growing number of Muslim residents, and high rates of criminal delinquency — much like Seine-Saint-Denis or Molenbeek.
