An Armyfag friend of mine stationed at Ft. Leavenworth hit me up earlier and told me they were to expect heavy helicopter coverage, specifically for night training by CAB elements of 1st ID. They put it out in the base paper so no one would be concerned by increased traffic. Why put this out here? 1. Fort Riley has plenty of space for night training. 2. IF 1st ID does coop training it would be with NG elements at Forbes field in Topeka or in Overland Park where there is a small NG unit. 3. My personal favorite: the small airfield on Ft. Leavenworth is only big enough to handle small civilian aircraft and vip aircraft like the UC-35s. Only thing they could practice are touch and goes. BUT, this airport has direct access to the maximum security, do not play well with others, military prison on the post. No coincidences, WWG1WGA.
