RNC moves $3.5 million apiece to House and Senate campaign arms as midterms approach

The Republican National Committee (RNC) has moved $3.5 million apiece to the GOP's House and Senate campaign arms as the midterms fast approach.

A GOP official confirmed the transfer to The Hill. Politico first reported the news.

The last-minute transfer comes as Republican congressional candidates are being massively outspent by their Democrat rivals in the midterms elections.

Democratic candidates raised $1.06 billion through September, while GOP candidates had only brought in $709 million.

As the midterms draw closer, Republicans have been pushing to close that gap.

In a memo from the Congressional Leadership Fund, a conservative super PAC associated with House Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wis.), the PAC's executive director expressed his concerns that GOP candidates will be swamped.

“Democratic candidates are outspending Republican candidates in key races by $50 million and the GOP is now facing a green wave, not a blue wave,” Corry Bliss, the executive director, wrote earlier this month, according to RealClearPolitics.

Still, polls have shown the Democrats slipping further and further from taking the Senate as their lead in the House narrows, despite their continued spending lead.

‘60 Minutes’ correspondents threaten to quit over potential new boss

A woman from “48 Hours” running “60 Minutes”? You must be joking.

Snooty correspondents at CBS’ “60 Minutes” are apoplectic over the idea that Susan Zirinsky — the longtime boss of the network’s crime-focused “48 Hours” news show — could soon be their boss.

The Post reported on Friday that 66-year-old Zirinsky had become the front-runner to succeed longtime “60 Minutes” executive producer Jeff Fager, who left the award-winning show last month amid accusations of inappropriate conduct and sexual harassment.

In response, top correspondents at “60 Minutes” over the weekend called members of CBS’ board to complain — with some threatening to resign if Zirinsky got the top job. One top correspondent even called Richard Parsons, who was interim chairman of CBS until Sunday, when he stepped down citing health reasons, according to a source.

While the identity of the miffed correspondents couldn’t be learned, one source noted that at least one was “approaching retirement age” and might have less to lose by threatening resignation.

A CBS spokeswoman declined comment on specifics of the race for Fager’s job, but added that “no decision has been made.”

Zirinsky has lately been in a neck-and-neck race with Fager’s longtime No. 2 exec, Bill Owens, according to sources close to the situation. But last week, insiders say CBS brass began leaning toward Zirinsky…more here

Records show FBI agents gave Andrew Gillum tickets to ‘Hamilton’ in 2016

Undercover FBI agents paid for Tallahassee Mayor Andrew Gillum's hotel room and his ticket to the Broadway musical Hamilton during a 2016 trip to New York City, according to a bombshell trove of records that raises new questions two weeks before the Nov. 6 election for Florida governor.

Among the records released Tuesday: photos, a video and dozens of text messages between Gillum, who is the Democratic nominee for governor, former lobbyist Adam Corey and an undercover FBI agent. They appear to contradict Gillum's explanation for the expenses, which have been made an major issue by his Republican rival, Ron DeSantis.

Gillum's campaign has maintained — and continued to do so Tuesday after the records were released — that Gillum's brother, Marcus, handed him the ticket the night of the show.

But text messages at the time of the trip show Gillum was told the tickets came from "Mike Miller," an FBI agent looking into city corruption who was posing as a developer.

"Mike Miller and the crew have tickets for us for Hamilton tonight at 8 p.m.," Corey texted Gillum on Aug. 10, 2016.

"Awesome news about Hamilton," Gillum replied, according to the records.

The campaign has not said how Marcus Gillum, who lives in Chicago, came by such a sought-after Broadway ticket, or whether Andrew Gillum asked his brother about it.

"These messages only confirm what we have said all along," Andrew Gillum said on Facebook Live. "We did go to see Hamilton. I did get my ticket to Hamilton from my brother. At the time, we believed that they were reserved by friends of Adam's, Mike Miller.

"And when I got there after work, got my ticket, we went in there and saw it, assumed my brother paid for it, and so far as I know, that was the deal."

DeSantis' campaign pounced with a statement: "It's now abundantly clear that Andrew Gillum has repeatedly lied about taking free gifts and trips from lobbyists. If he'll lie about these gifts and trips from lobbyists on national television, what else is he lying about?"….

MEXICAN POLICE REPORTEDLY FLY IN HELICOPTERS AGAINST A BANKRUPT OIL COMPANY

Workers of the bankrupt Mexican oil company Oro Negro reportedly entered into a standoff with Mexican police over the weekend after police helicopters tried to land on the company’s offshore oil rigs, intending to seize them for the company’s creditors, according to The Wall Street Journal.

The workers blocked the helipads on four of five rigs, preventing the helicopters from landing, TheWSJ reports. The choppers carried lawyers for Oro Negro’s creditors and officers of the Mexican federal police trying to enforce a court order to turn over the rigs as collateral to bondholders.

“A criminal judge ordered restitution of the rigs and ordered federal authorities to assist in those orders. It’s that simple,” Paul Leand, a New York investor leading the bondholders’ action against Oro Negro, told TheWSJ. “At the end of the day, we have no interest in holding on to these rigs. What we’re interested in is protecting and securing our collateral.”

Oro Negro filed for bankruptcy in Mexico in 2017 after crude prices plummeted, causing Pemex, Mexico’s state-owned oil giant, to cut contractors’ pay and cancel agreements with the oil driller.

The bankrupt company and its bondholders accused Pemex of violating the North American Free Trade Agreement’s (NAFTA) provisions against fraud and discrimination earlier in 2018 by favoring Seamex, a rival oil company contractor.

Oro Negro filed for and received bankruptcy protection in the U.S. in April.

Pemex has contested the charges of fraud and favoritism, despite official contracts that show Seamex received better terms than with Oro Negro, according to TheWSJ. Pemex said the difference in the contracts was due to more expertise and stronger negotiators in Seamex.

The escalation in Oro Negro’s case against Pemex comes as Mexico’s oil giant is struggling to deal with uncertainty surrounding a new administration and increased interference from Mexican cartels stealing fuel.

Mexico’s incoming president, Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador, will enter office in December. Obrador holds left-leaning positions such as universal access to public colleges and an expansion of welfare programs. He also against free-market reforms his predecessor, Enrique Pena Nieto, instituted in the Mexican energy industry.

Honduran crime, extreme poverty fueling migrant caravan

A caravan of some 7,000 migrants that originated in Central America is advancing through southern Mexico, intent on the U.S. border. The vast majority of participants, still more than 1,000 miles from their goal, are from Honduras, a country of nine million people struggling with crime and extreme poverty.

The caravan has advanced about 45 miles since crossing the border from Guatemala, and still must traverse roughly 1,000 miles to reach the closest U.S. border crossing at McAllen, Texas — more than twice that to reach the Tijuana-San Diego crossing.

Many in the caravan have little chance of qualifying for asylum, even if they do make it, as the United States does not consider things like fleeing from poverty or gang violence as a qualifying factor.

President Trump has seized on the phenomenon and made it a rallying call for his Republican base ahead of the Nov. 6 midterm elections.

Trump has blamed Democrats for what he says are weak immigration laws, claiming — without putting forth evidence — that MS-13 gang members and unknown “Middle Easterners” were hiding among the migrants.

As for those from Honduras, a bleak combination of powerful drivers like poverty and gang violence — leads many to see emigration as the only possibility for a decent life, and an estimated 750,000 Hondurans live outside the country, including nearly 600,000 in the United States, according to the International Organization for Migration.

Nearly two-thirds of Hondurans, or almost 5.5 million people, live in poverty, according to the World Bank. In rural areas, one in every five Hondurans live in extreme poverty.

Per capita income averages just $120 per month.

The World Bank said Honduras has “the highest levels of economic inequality” in Latin America.

The Inter-American Commission on Human Rights said in August that the situation creates a system that only benefits an elite minority with close ties to the highest political and economic levels…..

Trump threatens to withhold federal aid to California over forest fires

President Trump on Tuesday volleyed a number of attacks at California over the state’s water practices and fire management, going so far as to threaten withholding future federal aid.

Speaking at an address to the White House State Leadership Day Conference, Trump warned California to “get on the ball” with how it manages its forests and regulates water releases from its dams, insinuating that both practices are responsible for a number of the state’s devastating forest fires.

“They have lousy management,” Trump said.

“This is a seriously defective thing there. I thought they had a drought. I didn’t realize. They said ‘no, we have so much water we don’t know what to do with it.’ Then you have all the forest fires. We have so much water they could actually water some of it.”

As of Tuesday, about 48 percent of California’s land — where about 63 percent of the state’s population lives — was experiencing drought, according to the federal government’s National Integrated Drought Information System.

Report: Millions in Food Stamp Dollars Flowed to Terrorists

Millions of taxpayers dollars trafficked through food stamp fraud went to terrorists who funded their activities at home and abroad, according to an explosive report from the Government Accountability Institute (GAI).

The report from GAI, where Breitbart News Senior-Editor-at-Large Peter Schweizer serves as president, highlighted several instances where money obtained through Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits fraud went to fund acts of terrorism, including the 1993 World Trade Center bombings and the 2013 Boston Marathon Bombing.

Although this method of using food stamp fraud money for terrorism has been around since the 1980s, it gained notoriety when New York City detectives testified before a Senate subcommittee about the 1993 World Trade Center bombings.
