Police are searching for a missing Thomas Jefferson High School student who was last seen leaving for the school bus on Monday morning.

Tenth-grader Shyla Lesansee was last seen at 6:30 a.m. in the 2400 block of S. Star Lake Road in Federal Way, according to a message that Federal Way Public Schools officials sent to families on Tuesday morning.

The student’s sister reported Shyla missing at approximately 8 p.m. on Monday. She told police that Shyla never returned home from school at 2:15 p.m., according to the Federal Way police report. She said this was “very unusual” for her sister, who had no motive to leave. Shyla did not pack any clothes and mentioned that she would be home later, the report continues.

She has no medical conditions.

Police contacted the school principal who confirmed through bus video that Shyla was not on the morning or afternoon bus, according to police. Her cell phone was also off.

Shyla was last seen wearing a dark sweater, dark blue jeans and has a red backpack, police said. According to the school district’s message to families, Shyla is 5 feet 5 inches, has black hair and brown eyes.

The district urges anyone with information about Shyla’s whereabouts to contact district security Roger Wheeler at 253-329-8885.
