John Brennan After Bomb Scare: Trump ‘Has Helped to Incite’ Americans

Former CIA Director John Brennan, one of the multiple Obama-era officials sent an apparent explosive device on Wednesday, accused President Donald Trump of helping to stir up feelings of “anger” and “violence” among Americans.

“[President Trump’s] rhetoric too frequently fuels incidents that are now bleeding over into acts of violence,” Brennan told audience members during a talk at the University of Texas at Austin. “It’s clear that this rhetoric is counterproductive. It is un-American.”

“What he said today is what the president should be doing but follow up on those actions, and I hope this is a turning point,” said Brennan, who is a distinguished scholar of the college.

“Unfortunately I think Donald Trump, too often, has helped to incite some of these feelings of anger, if not violence,” he added.

The former intelligence chief’s remarks come after the U.S. Secret Service revealed it had intercepted multiple suspicious packages addressed to former President Barack Obama and ex-Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. Additionally, CNN’s Manhattan headquarters was evacuated after what is believed to have been an explosive device was found at the news network’s Time Warner Center studios. The package was addressed to Brennan, who is not a CNN employee, but rather works for MSNBC as a contributor.

Houthis Crush Saudi-led Coalition Troops In Large-Scale Attack South Of Kilo 16

Between October 21 and 22, the Houthis launched a large-scale offensive around the area of “Kilo 16” south of the strategic city of al-Hudaydah on the western coast of Yemen. The al-Masirah TV said that Houthi fighters captured several positions south of Kilo 16 and cut the main highway between al-Hudaydah and the Yemeni capital of Sanaa during the surprise offensive.

“Over the last two days, the [Yemeni] army and the popular committees [armed wing of the Houthis] succeeded in recapturing important areas south of the area of Kilo 16 near al-Hudaydah [after] infecting significant loss in lives and equipment on the agents of the aggression,” a field commander of the Houthis told al-Masirah on October 23.

The Houthis media wing released a 29-minute video of the fierce offensive showing Houthi fighters shelling Saudi-led coalition positions with rockets, carrying out night raids and destroying scores of military vehicles with different anti-tank weapons.

In September, the Saudi-led coalition carried out an attack on Kilo 16 that lasted for several days. While the coalition managed to capture some key position there, its loses were significant enough to halt the attack. Since then, the Houthis drained coalition troops in the area by conducting limited hit and run attacks.

The new offensive by the Houthis is for sure a strong message to the Saudi-led coalition, that’s currently planning to resume its military operations around Kilo 16 with a declared aim of capturing al-Hudaydah and its port.

Western Powers, Saudi Royals Could Force Prince Salman to Step Down - Analyst

The Khashoggi case has thrown up many urgent questions for the international community, not least whether it is now ethical to continue selling weapons to a regime which doesn’t hesitate to annihilate its opponents. Many would argue of course, that it never was.

The brutal murder of the Washington Post writer, and one time friend of the Saudi royals, in its blatant disregard for international law has churned up issues which had been successfully brushed under the carpet for years. Germany has been the first country to declare it can no longer justify the sale of arms to the Saudi Kingdom – the question is which western countries will bite the bullet and follow suit?

Or under a US administration driven by a former billionaire businessman will the world see that indeed, money talks louder than any screams could from the grave of a Saudi dissident? Sputnik spoke to political analyst, Catherine Shakdam for more insight on the issue.

Or under a US administration driven by a former billionaire businessman will the world see that indeed, money talks louder than any screams could from the grave of a Saudi dissident?

Catherine Shakdam: Well I would say that when it comes to Washington I would say that money speaks louder than anything else. I think that President Donald Trump actually made this very clear early on in the Khashoggi case when he said that one man’s fate was not worth cancelling billions of dollars’ worth of contracts.

And I think this is something that Washington will stay true to. Now when it comes to European capitals and I do think that Paris will definitely do something. Only for the reason that it is the second time that Saudi Arabia has committed a crime so grand that it’s very difficult to look away.
