Spain's Supreme Court sends Catalan independence leaders to trial

MADRID (Reuters) - Spain’s Supreme Court on Thursday said it had ended its investigation against 18 Catalan independence leaders who will now face trial, likely at the beginning of next year.

The prosecutor now has five working days to press charges related to an illegal push for independence of the north eastern region of Catalonia in 2017.

Nine of those leaders are currently held in prison in Spain ahead of the trial and are expected to be tried for rebellion, which carries a potential sentence of up to 30 years in jail.

The other nine, who have been released on bail or went into self-imposed exile, face charges ranging from rebellion to misuse of public funds and disobedience.

Mexico-bound American Airlines plane evacuated in Miami over 'security concern'

A "security concern" caused the evacuation of all passengers from an American Airlines flight heading to Mexico City at Miami International Airport. The threat has since been lifted without an official explanation.

Miami-Dade Police Department confirmed it investigated a security concern at the airport. Passengers disembarked and necessary "safety protocols [were] set in place," police said in a tweet.

K-9 units were dispatched to the aircraft, according to eyewitnesses.

American Airlines dismissed the concern as a "non-credible threat, that should be cleared momentarily," according to Reuters.

Still, officers in full protective gear armed with assault rifles were spotted at the scene.

Juha Mikkola, a passenger on the evacuated flight, tweeted that people were kept in the dark about the cause of the flight's delay and the extensive checks to which they were being subjected. He said that law enforcers were searching the passengers' phones.

Less than an hour after the initial alert, police gave the all-clear for passengers to board the plane and depart for Mexico City.

San Francisco: Lawyers release names of 212 alleged priest sex offenders in attempt to make Archdiocese come clean

As dioceses around the country are disclosing names of priests accused of misconduct, a law firm on Tuesday released a report containing the names of 212 Catholic Clergy members accused of sexual misconduct in the Bay Area.

The report, compiled by lawyers from Jeff Anderson and Associates based in St. Paul, Minn., accuses 135 offenders from the Archdiocese of San Francisco, 95 from the Diocese of Oakland and 33 from the Diocese of San Jose. A total of 111 of these priests are dead or thought to be dead.

It was initially reported that there were 263 names on the list but 51 of those names were duplicates, because some of the priests served in multiple diocese.

So why release the names? Because it's important to let other survivors know that they weren't alone, said Tom Emens, a sex abuse survivor, at a news conference in San Francisco.

"This is the hardest thing I've ever done," Emens said. "But it's also the most necessary. I'm an empowered survivor. What happened to me should never happen to any child." He said he was coming forward so that there "wouldn't be any more secrets." He said he was sure that after the release of the report and the lawsuit, there would likely be dozens of people to share stories of abuse.

Anderson and his team are seeking to compel Archbishop Salvatore Cordileone in San Francisco, Bishop Patrick McGrath in San Jose and Bishop Michael Barber in Oakland to release the names of all clergy accused of sexual misconduct in all three dioceses and request the federal court to release files that show the participation and complicity of top church officials in the handling of clergy sexual abuse cases. There are at least 101 priests who are alive, but whose whereabouts are not immediately known to the public, the lawyers said.

Why is Patients for Affordable Drugs Backing Menendez?

Patients for Affordable Drugs (P4AD), a super PAC that claims to be bipartisan, has spent a considerable amount of money attacking Sen. Bob Menendez’s (D-NJ) Republican opponent, Bob Hugin, this election cycle despite Menendez’s ties to convicted felon Dr. Salomon Melgen, whose crimes stand in direct contradiction to P4AD’s mission statement.

In 2015, Menendez was indicted on federal corruption charges because of gifts he received from Melgen, who was a longtime friend and donor to Menendez, in return for political favors from Menendez.

Given P4AD’s mission of defending consumers from increased drug pricing, it raises the question of why are that group is helping Menendez, who is so closely tied to a man who defrauded patients out of $73 million?

When you consider that P4AD is funded almost entirely by the Action Now Initiative, a 501(c)(4) which is the political arm of liberal billionaires Laura and John Arnold, you start to understand why P4AD helped Menendez, who is locked in a tight reelection campaign according got to recent polling.

The Cult of Climate Change is finally coming out of the closet in conveying its true agenda for the world. As relayed by The Daily Signal, the only way to stop global warming, according to the world’s “top scientists,” is to completely dismantle all forms of capitalism and free enterprise.

This is the conclusion reached by the United Nations’ Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), which recently announced that the only system of government that offers humanity both dignity and the opportunity to flourish and prosper must be abolished in order to protect the polar bears, stop the oceans from rising, and increase sales for Al Gore’s latest climate fiction novels.

“If you are wondering what you can do about climate change,” tweeted meteorologist and apparent soy boy Eric Holthaus, “The world’s top scientists just gave rigorous backing to systematically dismantle capitalism as a key requirement to maintaining civilization and a habitable planet.”

Well, isn’t that just convenient? Plus, of the real deaths from the actual flu, how many of those people DID get the flu shot? The CDC refuses to reveal those statistics, and there lies the rub.

You see, that jab makes the vaccine manufacturers billions of dollars, which are then handed over to politicians and regulatory officials during their auspicious “lobbying” functions, legislation promotions, and insider donations.
