It's why he hasn't gone full public with what he knows, regardless of any "dead man's switch", and is allowed to slowly leak what they are willing to give up so as to slowly condition the public on the subject because, let's face it, people are dumb panicky animals who don't like the world and beliefs disturbed, so it has to be slow. If he had not been "convinced" he could've release all he has, long ago, whether it killed him or not but….
