How does the 2016 Devgru/ST6 - Iran incident tie into the nuclear deal… seems like the team was set up and the Iranians knew they were coming. Was this a chance encounter or a meeting/dropoff?

It all has to do with the initiator of the bomb… the part that provides the initial spark of neutrons to kick off the reaction. Traditional designs had used Polonium initiators… but somewhere along the line.. maybe due to Operation Merlin somehow the technical information about Uranium Deuteride got out and started to show up in the designs of Iranian, Pakistani, and North Korean weapons. This allows for significant miniaturization of the designs to take place advancing these countries' nuclear programs by the 20 years or so quoted.

"You have no doubt seen the Times of London story, in which Catherine Philp claims to have obtained a 2007 “technical document” from from Iran that “describes the use of a neutron source, uranium deuteride, which independent experts confirm has no possible civilian or military use other than in a nuclear weapon.”"
