If you knew of a certain fixed event within a timeline, you could then use it to guide the timelines. Even aspects which you supposedly have no control over.

For example, If you know that a certain tree will exist, you could resolve to cut it down unless the cabal is brought down. You have thereby increased the probability of them being brought down. You have also increased your own probability of having a tragic accident.

Like throwing boulders in a braided river, you can redirect the flow into positive timelines by rendering negative timelines inconsistent.

This bears some resemblance to chaos magick. I doubt the cabal could survive an attack by hordes of autistic wizards. We can handle a little temporal schizophrenia… They can't!
