You are kind of correct anon. There is an obvious connection between Diana, the Saudis and Al Fayed. The British Monarchy have always considered themselves related to the house of Saud and had very close ties. This changed a bit in the 1970s when the 'bad CIA' made a power play in the Middle East.
Current Royals are interesting. Kate Middleton is not a commoner. She is bloodline. She's a Lupton. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lupton_family
She is also related to James Martineau, one of the father's of Unitarian Church. The puritan pilgrims of America all became unitarian after a generation or two. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/James_Martineau
I think it was a deal done. In the same way, Charles marrying Diana was to add Stuart blood to the Royal bloodline.
As for Megan, graduated in theatre and international studies from Northwestern at Evanstown. Feels a bit spooky to me. However, I think it is to shore up the Pilgrim society alliance between USA and Britain so all good in my book.
