I strongly disagree with your reply to this point alone: Never ever lie to a patient with a terminal illness. Not ever. You owe them the absolute truth of their condition as you understand it. Nothing less.
Most all people want the truth. The only circumstance where bold honesty is inappropriate is in the setting of significant mental illness. In this setting, truth can do more harm than good.
If your friend wants to bone this chick he should tell her she’s beautiful and buy her flowers or some shit like that. It usually works.
