Iran rejects Denmark claim about thwarted assassination plot

Iran has "strongly" dismissed the claim made by Danish intelligence chief Finn Borch Andersen that an Iranian intelligence service had tried to carry out a plot to assassinate an Iranian Arab opposition figure on Denmark's soil.

Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Bahram Qassemi said on Tuesday that the publication of such "spiteful" media reports and its attribution to Iran is a plot by enemies to affect Tehran's growing relations with European countries.

He emphasized that these claims are the continuation of plots and conspiracies hatched by known enemies who are against good and expanding Iran-Europe relations at the current sensitive conditions.

Earlier on Tuesday, Borch Andersen said a Norwegian citizen of Iranian background was arrested on October 21 on the accusation of helping an unspecified Iranian intelligence service “to act in Denmark” and on alleged involvement in the assassination plot.

He did not name the suspect but said he has denied wrongdoing and is being held in pre-trial custody until November 8.

Denmark's Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that Danish Foreign Minister Anders Samuelsen summoned the ambassador of Iran, Mr. Morteza Moradian, to a meeting with the political director of the ministry.

Notorious Mob Boss Whitey Bulger Killed In Prison

Mere hours after he was moved from a federal transfer facility to a prison in West Virginia, notorious Boston crime boss James "Whitey" Bulger, who led the city's Irish mob for more than two decades through a potent mix of cunning and ruthless intimidation, has been killed, according to media reports.

While the circumstances of his death are unclear, the Associated Press confirmed Tuesday that Bulger had been moved to a prison in West Virginia called USP Hazelton, a high-security prison with near a minimum security satellite camp in Bruceton Mills. The 89-year-old prisoner had recently been moved from a prison in Florida to a transfer facility in Oklahoma City. While the Bureau of Prisons refused to confirm why Bulger had been moved, sources said his health had been deteriorating.

He was serving a life sentence after being convicted in 2013 of a long list of crimes including participating in 11 murders. For 16 years, he topped the FBI's most wanted list after fleeing a pending indictment in 1994 after being tipped off by former FBI agent John Connolly, with whom he grew up in the notorious housing projects of South Boston, and who federal authorities later convicted on accusations that he protected Bulger and essentially operated as a member of his Winter Hill gang. But he was arrested in 2011 in Santa Monica, along with his longtime girlfriend Catherine Grieg, who was sentenced to 21 months in prison back in 2016. She remains behind bars.

Bulger's legend grew after the 2006 film 'The Departed' won Martin Scorsese a 'Best Director' Academy Award. It's chief antagonist, an Irish mob boss played by Jack Nicholson, was said to have been based on Bulger.

As several commenters pointed out on Twitter, the timing of Bulger's death is certainly suspicious, particularly the fact that US media organizations are reporting that he was killed - rather than dying from natural causes - and was found dead at the facility.

Mother of Julian Assange: President Trump Could Send a Clear Message to the Swamp By Preemptively Pardoning My Son

Christine Assange, the mother of award-winning publisher Julian Assange, is calling for President Donald Trump to send a clear message to the swamp by preemptively pardoning her politically persecuted son.

Assange said on Monday that Ecuador is seeking to end his asylum and hand him over to the United States.

Speaking to the Gateway Pundit, Mrs. Assange made the case for why a preemptive pardon would be in line with the promises President Trump made during his campaign.

“President Trump was elected by the American people to ‘Drain the Swamp’ and ‘Make America Great Again,'” Mrs. Assange began. “The ‘Swamp’ is otherwise known as the Deep State — or as US President Dwight Eisenhower called it, ‘The Military Industrial Complex.’”

“In his farewell speech to the nation, Eisenhower warned the American people of its ‘dangerous and growing threat to democracy.’ My son, journalist Julian Assange, has in his courageous work as Editor in Chief of Wikileaks spent the last 12 years exposing the Deep State ‘Swamp’ which has now expanded its power and influence since the days of Eisenhower to include the intelligence agencies, Silicon Valley and much of the establishment media,” Mrs. Assange explained.

Mrs. Assange said that both President Trump and her son are considered to be outsiders who refuse to play the Deep State insider games — and share many of the same supporters who wish to reclaim democracy back from Deep State control.

“Both have been ruthlessly smeared and attacked by deep state players in the intelligence agencies, media and entertainment industry,” Mrs. Assange said of the president and her son. “I believe that if President Trump was to give Julian a preemptive pardon and save his life from the brutal political persecution and torture that he has endured for years at the hands of corrupt deep state ‘swamp’ elites, it would send a clear message to all that he is man of his word, a courageous leader who stands up for the American Constitution — a man worthy of the office of President.”

Assange has been at the Ecuadorian Embassy in London for over six years after being granted political asylum by the South American nation. However, his status at the embassy has been in jeopardy as Ecuador has come under increasing pressure from the US government.

In 2016, after 16 months of investigation, the United Nations Working Group on Arbitrary Detention (UNWGAD) concluded that Julian Assange is the victim of arbitrary detention. Not only did the group, made up of lawyers and human rights professionals, release an opinion that Assange should be released, they reported that he should be compensated by the governments of Sweden and the United Kingdom for “deprivation of liberty.”
