The strike also comes as a condemnation of the barbaric attacks on the Syrian people in Golan who prevented holding the “local councils elections” which the occupation authorities attempts to impose on the Syrians in Golan.

Israeli occupation forces had attacked the protesters in Golan with live rounds and gas grenades in an attempt to disperse them by force, injuring several protesters and causing the suffocation of many civilians, including elderly people, women, and children.

Turkish Forces Clashing With YPG Near Kobani In Northern Syria, Casualties Reported

On October 31, the Turkish military artillery shelled positions of the Kurdish People’s Protection Units (YPG) and the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) around the war torn city of Ayn Arab, known as Kobani, in northern Syria. We, as the Syrian Democratic Forces [SDF], emphasize that we have the right to retaliate against any attack on our lands and, if necessary, we will not refrain from exercising this right,” the YPG’s press release reads. The YPG and the PKK, which are considered the core of the US-backed SDF, are both recognized by the Turkish government as terrorist organizations. This has led to serious tensions between the U.S. and Turkey, especially that a large part of the Turkish-Syrian border is now under the SDF control.

SDF Halts Its Operation In Euphrates Valley Because Of Turkish Attacks On Kurdish Armed Groups In Northern Syria

“We inform the world, that the Turkish attacks in the north and ISIS attacks in the south against our troops had forced us to stop our current operation temporarily against ISIS in the last pocket of it, the ongoing Turkish attacks on our area will stop our battles against ISIS for long time and that what Turkey is calling for it,” the SDF said in an official statement. “We demand our partners in the International [US-led] Coalition to show a clear attitude and stop Turkey from launching attacks on the region and giving more chances to maintain ISIS and providing support for it,” the SDF added.

While the SDF claims that these attacks forced it to halt its military operation in the Euphrates Valley, local observers believe that this is only an excuse. Since the beginning of the operation in late September, the US-backed group has faced a series of setbacks. In the last two weeks, a wave of ISIS attacks killed more than 100 fighters of the group and forced it to withdraw from all the newly-capture areas.

President al-Assad: We paid a heavy price to preserve our homeland and independent decision

The President considered that the weight of the World Peace Council and the World Federation of Democratic Youth lies in their adherence to their principles in defending truth and embodying the principle of peace at a time when international policies are built on lies and deception. Defending principles exacts a price, the President affirmed, citing Syria which paid a heavy price to preserve the homeland and independent decision.

“When principles are realistic and based on the will and interests of nations, they constitute a solid basis in the face of the narrow interests of some Western states who have never refrained from igniting wars to realize their goals by spreading the extremist ideology which was marketed by the US administration in the 1980s and promulgating ignorance in a way that plunges peoples into wars and through spreading poverty in the world,” added the President.

The organization the Jewish Vote posted on Twitter, “Trump and the GOP are directly responsible for the wave of white nationalist terrorism sweeping the country. Hate speech coming from the White House is causing hate violence in our communities.”

The sit-in occurred while President Donald Trump was en route to Pittsburgh with his son-in-law Jared Kushner and daughter Ivanka Trump. The president’s initial comments following the deadliest attack on American Jews in the U.S. in modern history were met with anger– and rebuffs of meetings with him on his travels to visit the mourners.

On Saturday hours after the shooting Trump suggested that had the Tree of Life Synagogue posted armed guards out front, it could have prevented the tragedy. “If they had protection inside the results would have been far better,” Trump said. “Maybe it could have been a very much different situation.”

Bitcoin's 10th Birthday: When Can We Expect The Next Boom?

In the ten years since its inconspicuous appearance, Bitcoin went from being a novelty currency for cryptography nerds to one of the largest currencies in the world. Sputnik explores bitcoin's slow rise, explosion, and stagnation, and offers a tip on what may prompt it to rise again.

On October 31, 2008, at the dawn of the global financial crisis, a shadowy individual or collective known as Satoshi Nakamoto published a white paper called "Bitcoin: A Peer-to-Peer Electronic Cash System" on the metzdowd.com cryptography mailing list, outlining the principles for a new digital currency which wouldn't depend on any existing banking institution or government oversight. Several months later, in January 2009, Nakamoto released the first bitcoin software and issued the first 50 units of the currency.

Seeing little use and valued at less than $1 US well into 2011, the currency enjoyed its first exponential jump in value in 2013, when the price of a single coin grew to nearly $1,000 before sliding back down to as little as $230 in 2015 and 2016. In late 2017, the cryptocurrency exploded again, this time up to dizzying highs of over $20,000, as mainstream investors looking to get rich quick began scrambling to cash in on the digital currency craze.

On January 17, the currency collapsed in what has since been remembered in the cryptocurrency industry as Black Tuesday, crashing to $9,600, and shaving off several thousand dollars more since then. Throughout 2018, the digital currency rose and then fell several times, settling at about $6,300 as of late October.

Obamas to Make Anti-Trump Netflix Show

Barack and Michelle Obama are working on an anti-Trump Netflix show. The new show will show Obama as a hero and the incoming Trump administration as bumbling rookies.

It will be a fantasy show.

The Week reported:

Is former President Barack Obama about to unleash one long subtweet against his successor in the form of a Netflix show?

Obama and former first lady Michelle Obama have acquired the rights to adapt Michael Lewis’ book The Fifth Risk as part of their overall deal with Netflix, Deadline reported Wednesday. Lewis’ book describes the disorder within the Department of Agriculture, Department of Energy, and Department of Commerce that took place during the transition between the Obama administration to the Trump administration. Many of the new president’s appointees were completely unprepared for their jobs and some roles weren’t filled at all, the book describes. Deadline reports that the possible series adaptation would be intended to “help people better understand the inner workings of the government.”

Netflix in May announced a multi-year deal in which the Obamas would produce shows for the streaming platform.

Democrat Stacey Abrams: AR-15s Are ‘Weapons of Mass Destruction,’ Must Be Banned

Georgia gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams (D) says AR-15s are “weapons of mass destruction” that must be banned.

Abrams said she is not “anti-gun,” then listed numerous gun controls, including an all-out ban on commonly owned semiautomatic firearms.

She was a guest on The View, and host Meghan McCain noted, “You have been endorsed by Everytown, which is an anti-gun organization–Michael Bloomberg’s anti-gun group as well. You say you’re proud of your F rating from the NRA. Michael Bloomberg and others like him support taking the AR-15–which is the most popular rifle in America–away from people. Do you, like Everytown, support banning the AR-15?”

Abrams responded by quickly claiming she is not “anti-gun,” then laying out many of the gun controls she wants to put in place: “I believe in a background check. I believe in a three-day waiting period. I believe that those who commit domestic violence and stalking should not have access to weapons.”

She then described AR-15s as “weapons of mass destruction” and made clear her position that they should be banned from civilian ownership:

McCain then asked if Abrams would be rounding up AR-15s–literally taking them away from Georgians–if she were able to secure a ban.

Abrams demurred, instead suggesting that “there has to be a conversation of how it’s accomplished.”

After outlining numerous gun controls she supports and calling for an AR-15 ban, Abrams said, “I support the Second Amendment.”

China Likely Stealing Russian Intellectual Property to Develop Weapons - Bolton

China is most likely stealing Russian intellectual property in order to sell copycat weapons systems for a lower price at some point in the future, Bolton said in Washington, DC on Wednesday.

"Russia sells advanced weapons systems and at least so far, China buys advanced weapons systems although I have complete confidence that they’re doing to the Russians the same thing they do to many American products and businesses – they’re stealing their intellectual property, they’re copying it, they’re duplicating it and pretty soon they’ll sell the same weapons systems at prices lower than the Russians sell them," US National Security Advisor John Bolton said at an Alexander Hamilton Society event.

Intellectual property is one of the key points of conflict which has caused the current trade war between the United States and China. In April, the US Trade Representative put China on its Priority Watch List in 2018 due to intellectual property concerns, including theft of trade secrets, online piracy and counterfeiting.

On Putin-Trump Meeting

Bolton also said that US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin have many issues to discuss, including the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces (INF) treaty and the Middle East.

"It's important to have sustained diplomatic engagement with them. That's the reason he went to Helsinki, that's the reason we're still talking about it and there are a lot of issues to discuss — the INF treaty is certainly one of them, we have other arms control issues, but we've got their behavior in the Middle East, in a whole range of other areas that it's important that we continue conversations on," Bolton said in Washington.

Bolton said the November 11 meeting between Trump and Putin in Paris was expected to be brief, but added that the two leaders would have "other opportunities" to address these issues.

However, Trump feels that despite the political rhetoric in the United States about alleged collusion during the 2016 election between Moscow and his campaign, it is important to have "sustained diplomatic engagement."

Russia and Trump have repeatedly denied allegations of collusion, and Moscow has called the accusations of interference in the election "absurd."

Iran summons Danish ambassador over alleged assassination plot

The Iranian Foreign Ministry has summoned the Danish ambassador to Tehran to express the Islamic Republic’s strong protest to “rash, politicized” remarks by certain officials of the European country over an alleged thwarted assassination plot.

Foreign Ministry Spokesman Bahram Qassemi said Wednesday that the head of the first office of Nordic affairs at the Iranian Foreign Ministry met Danny Annan earlier in the day to convey Iran’s strong protest to reports about the arrest of a Norwegian citizen of Iranian background over his alleged involvement in a plot to assassinate an Iranian Arab opposition figure on Denmark's soil.

During the meeting, the Iranian Foreign Ministry official categorically rejected reports of such a plot and Iran’s involvement as “spiteful” and said such reports were in line with plots and schemes by those against the good, growing relations between Iran and Europe at the current sensitive circumstances and warned about the repercussions of any injudicious and controversial measure, Qassemi said.

Qassemi added that the Danish envoy said in the meeting that he had been recalled by his respective country for consultations and that he would deliver Iran’s protest to officials in Copenhagen.

On Tuesday, Danish intelligence chief Finn Borch Andersen claimed that an Iranian intelligence service had tried to carry out a plot to assassinate an Iranian Arab opposition figure on Denmark's soil. He said the suspect was arrested on October 21 on the accusation of helping an unspecified Iranian intelligence service “to act in Denmark” and on alleged involvement in the assassination plot.

He, however, did not name the suspect but said he had denied any wrongdoing and was being held in pre-trial custody until November 8.

The Iranian Foreign Ministry said on Tuesday that the publication of such "spiteful" media reports and its attribution to Iran was a plot by enemies to affect Tehran's growing relations with European countries.

Later on Tuesday, Denmark said it is recalling its ambassador to Iran and will push for fresh EU-wide sanctions against Iran.

How the US midterm election will impact relations with Russia

The outcome of the November 6 election will impact a lot of things, including the prospects for US-Russian relations

The US official statements are often extremely tough and sometimes even bellicose but, like it or not, Russia is an international actor a dialog is inevitable with. National Security Adviser (NSA) John Bolton, a known anti-Russia hawk, visited Moscow on Oct.22-23.

He never sounds friendly but the intensity of his contacts with Russian officials is impressive enough. It was the third time in four months he held talks with high-placed Russian officials, including a five-hour conversation with the Russian counterpart and talks with defense and foreign ministers. Before the recent visit, he came to Moscow in June and met Secretary of the Russian Security Council Nikolai Patrushev in Geneva.

ussian President Vladimir Putin has been invited to visit Washington in early 2019. The invitation has not been yet formally accepted and the scheduling is still to be ironed out. Before that the Russian and US leaders will meet in Paris at the WWI Victory centenary commemorations on November 11. This meeting will be special. A very important event – the US midterm election on Nov.6 – may change the background.

If Republicans win or retain the majority in both houses, President Trump will go to Paris relieved of a heavy load with his position much strengthened. No more talks about an impeachment caused by “Russiagate”.

Obstructing him in Congress won’t be an easy walk Democrats hope for. The deep state would be frustrated but it will have to reconcile with reality. The president will have much more wiggle room for achieving his foreign policy goals, especially when it comes to Russia. It does not mean he’ll lift the sanctions or change his stance on the INF Treaty.

It means that despite many things that divide them, the parties could have a dialog on major international and bilateral issues. Some of them will continue to be points of contention but some may turn into areas of cooperation. The two powers could have working relations to address the agenda of mutual interest and that’s what they lack at present.

Henry Kissinger had little sympathy for Communists and was no friend of the USSR. Nevertheless, in the capacity of national security adviser and state secretary he pioneered the policy of détente. He is still trying to upend the bilateral relationship. The Soviet Union and the United States were no friends but rather competitors. This fact did not prevent them from being dialog partners to large extent thanks to Mr. Kissinger’s efforts.

The worst was prevented, the balancing of the brink of conflict never resulted in real shooting and arms control was effectively in place. Mr. Bolton could do the same. As one can see, he maintains the contacts against all the odds. President Trump and his NSA believe it makes sense. Richard Nixon stood out for his ability to resist outside influence and make independent foreign policy decisions.
