Trump says oil supply elsewhere sufficient to allow cut in Iran purchases

 

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. President Donald Trump said on Wednesday in a presidential memorandum that he had determined there was sufficient supply of petroleum and petroleum products from nations other than Iran to permit a reduction in purchases from that country.

 

The memorandum, addressing the secretaries of State, Treasury and Energy, comes days ahead of the administration’s renewed sanctions on Iranian oil exports, planned to come into effect on Nov. 5.

GUN SHOP OFFERING FREE WEAPONS TO RABBIS FOLLOWING PITTSBURGH SYNAGOGUE SHOOTING

 

A gun shop just outside of Colorado Springs, Colorado, has offered a free AR-15 or handgun to Rabbis following the Pittsburgh synagogue shooting.

 

The owner of the shop, Mel Bernstein, is offering the weapons for free alongside training and ammunition. Speaking about the offer, the owner compared an active shooter situation to a fire, likening a firearm to a fire extinguisher as a tool to be used to fight the fire.

 

Scott Levin of the Anti-Defamation League says that he does not think the idea is helpful, saying that members of the clergy carrying weapons will hurt the image of the synagogue. Instead, Levin says that panic buttons should be installed, and potentially armed security.

Official: Mafia hit man suspected in Whitey Bulger’s slaying

 

BOSTON (AP) — A Mafia hit man who is said to hate “rats” is under suspicion in the slaying of former Boston crime boss and longtime FBI informant James “Whitey” Bulger, who was found dead hours after he was transferred to a West Virginia prison, an ex-investigator briefed on the case said Wednesday.

 

The former official said that Fotios “Freddy” Geas and at least one other inmate are believed to have been involved in Bulger’s killing. The longtime investigator was not authorized to discuss the matter and spoke on condition of anonymity.

 

Authorities have not disclosed the cause of death.
