All I'll say is that my late father's job wasn't declassified until I was 45 years old, and he knew both Kelly Johnson and Ben Rich. Rich had to spend more time in DC than he actually liked (Palmdale was more fun) and Johnson was a hell of a manager, his guys were super loyal because he was 100% no-bullshit and gave his people the authority to get shit done.
I'm too old now to even speculate how today's generation would fare. It's a different world.

SR-71 leaked like a sieve on the ground. They didn't even fill it up before flights, just got some fuel in and it was dripping everywhere, then when it got to altitude, it warmed up a bunch, sealed up, and they filled up the tank midair.
