Australia and its culture of lobbying and why it will be much harder to shut down than America

Over here lobbying is actually encouraged and accepted as normal by the media, business, and dare say even people.

Its so engrained here that its not at all problematic to hear of ministers and beaurecrats being wined and dined and recieving gifts from high end wines right through to having a son or daughter recieve an easier enrollment at a prestigious college or university.

All these things are accepted as the norm and the only catch is you just have to declare these gifts. These are big corps to chinese government officials to activist groups.

The problem with this is that becsuse it is accepted as part of our political process tgese politicians sell out to anyone who is willing to gift them or line their pockets - you support ne on LGTB issues and endorse our proposals and we will reward you.

Its sickening because these little dinners and gifts here and there that are being declared and therefore in peoples minds being 'transparent' its provides the lerfect cover for the 'real business' to go on unchecked and we wonder why the chinese are buying up our infrastructure or why gay lifestyles are suddenly on the school ciruculum.

Even media encourages more lobbying from 'under represented' groups to get in on the action if they want to see their agenda represent in 'policy'.

Fucken disgusting and for this to be normal and encouraged is just criminal.

I think it really gained acceptance in recent years with the advent of social activists like the lgtb lobby, to people concerned about road saftey in school zones etc.

Big business slowly creeps in amidst all that and over time its just become normal and encouraged.

Lobbying makes up most of the laws and regulations in our country today.

You will never effect policy unless you get together and start lining politicians pockets with money and gifts/privlages.

In this country there is a lobby group for just about any issue business or social that you can think of.

Think of business associations such as the nsw retailers association and then you have a national retailers association . So many layers and what not.
