November 1, 2018 - A U.S. Army Black Hawk helicopter made an emergency landing in a farm field near Richardsville in Culpeper County on Thursday afternoon.

There were no injuries to the three-member crew based at Fort Belvoir in Fairfax County.

Military District of Washington spokeswoman Shaunteh Kelly described the incident as “a precautionary landing” after a light came on in the cockpit.

A second helicopter was dispatched to the scene to pick up the crew and assess repairs, she said.

The incident occurred around 1:45 p.m. along Curtis Mill Lane following the apparent activation of a fire alarm on board the aircraft, according to local reports.

The Culpeper County Sheriff’s Office, Virginia State Police and Richardsville Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department responded to the scene and there was no fire.

According to a local first responder on scene, the pilot set the helicopter down in a hayfield after activating the fire suppression system inside the helicopter.

The Black Hawk is the Army’s front-line utility helicopter used for air assault, air cavalry and aeromedical evacuation units, according to the U.S. Department of Defense.

September 6, 2018 - CHESTER, Va. (WRIC) – A Black Hawk helicopter made an emergency landing in Chester on Thursday afternoon after the pilot noticed a caution light turn on mid-flight.

Authorities responded to Chestnut Hill Road, just off Old Church Road and Route 10, after receiving calls about a helicopter crash at around 4:49 p.m, according to State Police.

The National Guard is conducting an investigation at this time, not State Police.

Another helicopter arrived on the scene to assist with the mechanics.
