I live in my state's largest city. Long story short, regrettably I was unable to vote during the primaries. All on me, but I had faith America would step up…and they did. That said, I won't miss Tuesday if my life depends on it.
For some reason I had a feeling something was off…last year I opened a PO Box and ever since it's felt as though I never receive all the registration cards and such I have been sent over the years. I was also worried that my polling station had changed. I recall, when I quickly passed the church that I used to vote at, it just seemed….almost inactive that day.
So I called my local board of elections this morning. Surprise, surprise. I was listed as 'inactive' (my voting location has in fact changed, for the worse).
Get this. They do not 'forward' election material EVEN THOUGH I originally registered with the US POST OFFICE to have ALL my residential mail to be forwarded. I never thought to worry though as there are so many 'election law' exemptions, as candidate mailers have been left in my home mailbox.
Think about that. My address, my PO Box, is listed with the FEDERAL GOVERNMENT at ONE OF THEIR OWN BOXES and they don't bother to forward for something as important as our elections, or alternatively, instruct that any election notice be left at my residence. Fuck me, better yet, what the fuck?
If I take her at her word I should NOW be on the rolls and I'm to 'update' my address when I'm there. Um, thought I updated my address when I originally OPENED MY FEDERAL PO BOX???
It feels like democratic fuckery to me. This area is, regrettably, still blue. Hope to see that become purple (or red) on Tuesday.
