From the first three words of Gen 1:1, John derived John 1:1-4. Peter could read it the same way. They had a more sure word of prophecy because they were taught by Jesus to read the prophecy and see that it all spoke of him. If you can't see the birth of Christ in Ge 38, then you don't yet read it the way they did.
I was not addressing you personally. There have been many people using the Book of Revelation in here to predict their favorite eschatology. Understanding Biblical prophecy is very much like solving Q riddles where the future (the NT) proves the past (OT).
