Pence says Republicans will keep control of the House

Vice President Pence maintained in an interview with Hill.TV on Friday that Republicans will keep control of the House in next week's midterm elections.

"I think we're going to expand our majority in the United States Senate, and I think we're going to hold our Republican majority in the House of Representatives," Pence told Hill.TV's Buck Sexton.

"But that being said, there is certainly common ground in areas that we can work that the president has laid out," Pence added when asked about working with Democrats if they win the House, citing issues like trade and infrastructure.

Jobs blowout with 250,000 added in October, soaring past expectations

U.S. employers added a better-than-expected 250,000 jobs in October, soaring past expectations for an increase of 190,000 jobs in the last jobs report before the midterm elections and on the heels of an incredibly volatile month for the stock markets.

The unemployment rate remained at 3.7 percent, the lowest rate in nearly 50 years, while the labor force participation rate increased to 62.9 percent from 62.7 percent during the month. Average hourly earnings meanwhile rose by five cents to $27.30, or 3.1 percent year-over-year, the highest it's been since the Great Recession.

"We saw better-than-expected payroll gains at 250,000 jobs, surging wages and increased labor force participationm," Mark Hamrick, a senior economic analyst for Bankrate.com said. "That’s a kind of an economic trinity that we haven’t often seen during this economic expansion."

Supreme Court allows trial on Census citizenship query, giving Trump administration a loss

WASHINGTON – The Supreme Court refused Friday to delay a trial set to begin next week challenging the Trump administration's intention to add a question about citizenship to the 2020 Census.

The action was a defeat for the Justice Department, which claimed the trial would distract government officials from their jobs. Many state and local governments, on the other hand, sought to move the case forward in hopes of blocking the citizenship question.

This Battered Women’s Shelter Is Being Investigated For Turning Away A Drunk, Injured Man

A battered women's shelter in Anchorage, Alaska, is being investigated because it didn't allow a drunk man to sleep in the same room as women.

Attorneys speaking on behalf of the Downtown Hope Center have repeatedly stated this man, who identifies as a woman, was not turned away because of his gender, but was sent to a hospital that night in January to get the medical treatment he needed. Shelter officials even paid for his cab fare to ensure that his wounds could be treated in a timely fashion. Yet the commission is investigating the shelter’s actions, arguing that it violated a city ordinance that was amended in 2015 to include a prohibition on discrimination based on “sexual orientation and gender identity to the grounds of discrimination.”
