Prior to 2016, Kevin Spacey was pretty cozy with the DNC. He claims to have prepared for the role but spending a lot of time with Bill Clinton. He also showed up in the Podesta emails and Lolita Express passenger list.

In hindsight, it appears that the entire purpose of the show was propaganda/predictive programming to sell the unlikable Clintons to the public for the 2016 election. The whole demoralizing message of the show is "politics is ugly, too bad, there's nothing you can do about it."
