Detainees released by Hussein are now in the Afghan Taliban's negotiating team. Pakistan has released high profile Mullah. President Trump has appointed special envoy and has tilted his hand for direct peace talks, pressuring Pakistan, co-opting Russia, and finding Taliban ready to talk face-to-face with Afghan government.
Whereas previous offers to talk were tied to conditions, the new offer from Afghan government is unconditional. The meaning of this may have more to do with saving face for all involved.
Recent civilian march for peace during a ceasefire had some Taliban factions mixing on streets with civilians in cities.
Something may be about to happen during the 17th year of war since the US invasion after 9-11.
