‘Security Concerns’: New SCOTUS Justice Kavanaugh Denied Ceremonial Walk

The US Supreme Court’s newest justice, Brett Kavanaugh, will not participate in the traditional walk down the courthouse steps following his investiture ceremony this week, due to security concerns, according to a statement issued on Friday by the US Supreme Court.

Kavanaugh's investiture ceremony is scheduled to take place on Thursday. Typically, a new judge, along with the chief justice, walk together down the marble steps in front of the Supreme Court after the new judge is admitted.

However, according to court spokesperson Kathy Arberg, an exception is being made in Kavanaugh's case "out of an abundance of caution due to security concerns."

On October 6, the Senate voted by 50 to 48 in favor of installing the 53-year-old conservative judge on the nine-member top US court, a life position.

​The vote put an end to weeks of bitter debate and protest after at least three women, including California criminal psychology professor Christine Blasey Ford, came forward with accusations that the judge had sexually assaulted them in the past. Kavanaugh denied the allegations, while US Donald President Trump repeatedly accused protesters of trying to "make Senators look bad."

This weekend, Judy Munro-Leighton — who admitted to writing a letter under the alias Jane Doe — told federal investigators that she had falsely accused Kavanaugh of sexual assault because she was "angry" and wanted public attention.

"Under questioning by Committee investigators, Ms. Munro-Leighton admitted, contrary to her prior claims, that she had not been sexually assaulted by Judge Kavanaugh," Senator Chuck Grassley wrote in a letter to Attorney General Jeff Sessions and FBI Director Christopher Wray, describing her as a left-wing activist who was "decades older than Judge Kavanaugh."

"The Committee is grateful to citizens who come forward with relevant information in good faith, even if they are not one hundred percent sure about what they know," Grassley wrote in his letter to the FBI and DOJ.

"But when individuals intentionally mislead the Committee, they divert Committee resources during time-sensitive investigations and materially impede our work. Such acts are not only unfair; they are potentially illegal."

According to a recent Harvard/Harris poll, most American women and men (about 55 percent) claim that Democrats were not genuinely concerned with the accusations of sexual assault made by Ford, but instead were using the allegations to gain political advantage.

Julia Louis-Dreyfus Get Out the Vote Ad Warns Trump’s America Heading Toward Nazism

Actress Julia Louis-Dreyfus starred in an ad for the ‘Multiply Your Vote’ campaign this weekend, warning that the United States is heading toward a political reality similar to that of Nazi Germany unless President Donald Trump’s power is restrained.

“Donald Trump, you are the president of all citizens of this country, you should not inflame the hatred of some at the violent expense of others,” Julia Louis-Dreyfus begins. “We’ve seen Jews subjected to persecution, prejudice, and mass murder for thousands of years. We were all horrified by the horrific slaughter of 11 Jewish congregants at the Tree of Life Synagogue in Pittsburgh.”

The video then features two Holocaust survivors, both of whom talk about the risk of escalating prejudice in society.

“Last two years, since Trump is in charge, it’s getting by day, worse and worse and worse,” says Marta Lightner, one of the Holocaust survivors.

“I think that this administration opened a Pandora’s Box,” adds Tova Rotlevy-Cohen, another Holocaust survivor.

The ad goes on to show footage from the Unite the Right rally in Charlottesville last year, where neo-Nazi marchers chanted: “Jews will not replace us!”

“In memory of the 11 people who lost their lives at their place of worship we call on the President to unequivocally denounced fascism, neo-Nazism, and white nationalism,” Louis-Dreyfus adds. “On November 6th, vote for unity, vote for decency, vote.”

Last month, the Veep star was featured in a similar ad for the ‘Multiply Your Vote’ campaign, urging people to take to the streets and campaign for the Democrats to make their voice heard on issues such as environment, women’s rights, immigration, and the protection of the “free press.”

Vaccination campaign launched in Orthodox neighborhoods amid measles outbreak

Health ministry unveils ‘intensive measures’ to combat contagious disease; will ban unvaccinated visitors from some ‘sensitive’ hospital wards

The Health Ministry on Sunday launched a campaign to ban unvaccinated visitors from some hospital wards and increase vaccination rates in unprotected communities around Jerusalem to combat one of Israel’s worst measles outbreaks in decades.

The ministry said it will be refusing access to “sensitive” departments of hospitals to visitors who are not immunized against the disease. These wards include intensive care and oncology.

The ministry said in a statement that Deputy Health Minister Yaakov Litzman approved the “intensive measures” that would be introduced in ultra-Orthodox neighborhoods in Jerusalem and Beit Shemesh.

Starting Monday, Tipat Halav perinatal care centers in the Jerusalem neighborhoods of Ramot, Givat Shaul, Ramat Eshkol, Romema, Sanhedria and Ramat Shlomo will extend their opening hours until 8 p.m. every day for the next two weeks. Care centers in in Beit Shemesh and Beitar Illit will also be open late.

In addition, mobile vaccination clinics will be sent to the neighborhoods that are home to the largest spread of known infections — 753 have been recorded in Jerusalem’s ultra-Orthodox communities alone — and where the immunization rate is around 50 percent.

Measles has made an aggressive return this year in Israel, with over 1,300 cases reported since the beginning of 2018, according to Health Ministry figures.
